What's the difference between different yamaha piano keyboards? (+questions below)
Digital piano is something that typically features weighted hammer action keys, sports a minimal variety of tones, and is built specifically for the purpose of emulating the touch and voicing of an acoustic piano. Piano keyboards are typically designed to be used for playing live at venues with a band, or used in tandem with a software or hardware synthesizer to produce sound. Piano keyboards also almost always feature much lighter actions than their digital piano varieties, as the heavier action is sometimes actually a drawback when trying trying play with certain tones (such as a Rhodes or a wurlitzer). In terms of differences between digital piano models, most of the time the more expensive they become, the more features the digital piano will have. For example, the cheaper model of a particular family may only have 5 or 6 tones to choose from, has a small amount of polyphony (the effective number of sounds that can be processed at once), and may lack other features such as Bluetooth, line outputs, or have pretty weak speakers. Conversely, a more expensive model in the same family will most likely have a dozen or more tones to choose from, will have much higher polyphony, and also would most likely sport other useful features such as Bluetooth, true line outputs, better speakers, etc. If your goal is to ultimately learn to play an acoustic piano, digital pianos with weighted hammer action keys are generally preferred because these will get you as close as possible to the touch and feel of an acoustic piano. If your goal is to play something like a piano and eventually transition into trying to play an acoustic one, a piano keyboard instrument would would fine. These are great if you want to experiment with a wide variety of tones, or if you are interested in doing live gigging with a band. More on reddit.com

Generally, 88-key weighted digital pianos are the way to go since they are most like an acoustic piano which is beneficial if you want to develop your skills and technique. At $150-300, you probably can only find a 61-key unweighted keyboard. While it wouldn't be as good as a digital piano, it can be used to learn the basics or if you do not have intention to play classical piano or play on a real piano eventually. Most keyboards, even at this price range, should have headphone and USB ports (for MIDI). Within this price range, the Yamaha PSR-E373 and Casio CT-S1 are probably the best options. I had an E373 for a short time and compared to even the older arrangers they are a lot more basic ..I believe the E stands for Educational and Yamaha put a lot of "learn to play functions" into them and at a very low entry price.

r/pianolearning on Reddit: What's the difference between different yamaha piano keyboards? (+questions below)
January 14, 2022 -
Never had a piano and im looking forward to learn.
What's the difference between and actual piano or a piano keyboard?
And what is different from between models like pss-9, psr-51, etc. I can't tell them apart.
Im interested in learning classical music, and eventually some pop, rocks and other stuff for fun who knows.
Sorry for all the questions and thank you in advance.
