I bought a P-145 secondhand and it's been perfectly adequate. There's nothing particularly spectacular about it, but it lets me play! There will definitely be better pianos out there, but I think it will last me a few years, and then I'll get something at a higher price point. Answer from Additional-Point-824 on reddit.com

I am looking to buy a new keyboard. Either I could buy a pre-owned P45 for much cheaper, or a new P145. I would rather spend little money, but above that would rather spend my money well. Is a P145 really that much better than the P45, in terms of sound quality and feel?

What is the best keyboard for beginners, Yamaha P145 or Yamaha P45? - Quora
Answer (1 of 4): I’d argue neither is the “best” keyboard for beginners, thought both are basically designed specifically as minimalist/entry level hammer action keyboards for beginners, and work fine for that. I think what you’re asking is which is BETTER for beginners P145 vs p45.

Yamaha P-145 review: New benchmark in beginner pianos
The Yamaha P-145 is the successor to one of the best-selling digital pianos of all time, the industry standard P-45. With the P-45 discontinued, Yamaha's new The P-145 is fantastic; it does everything that the P-45 does, but slightly better and in a more compact, lightweight body. I'm very impressed that the new compact action feels so similar to the older P-45. It's a well-designed digital piano and an ideal choice for any who wants full-size weighted keys and a great piano sound.

January 12, 2025 - I’m not quite sure why Yamaha did this, but for SOME reason they’ve chosen to have these 2 slightly different versions of the same piano; it appears (at least at the time of this video) that only the P-143 is available in the USA, and only the P-145 is available in Canada; not sure about the rest of the world, but at any rate, keep these differences in mind if you’re concerned about them (most likely your biggest concern would be the triple pedal unit).

The P-45 was the entry level keyboard from Yamaha that has weighted keys. Now there is the upgraded P-145. Not a lot when it comes to polyphony, number of instrument effects. The only thing attractive is the price which you don't get many features. Is the keyboard worth buying?

r/piano on Reddit: Should I get a Roland FP-10 or a Yamaha P-145 as a beginner?
January 26, 2024 -

Total noob, never played a keyboard before. I'm not looking to be a professional or go gigging, just want to play some of my favourite songs. Been thinking about getting one for a while, only started looking into it the past week and I’m stuck between these two:

Roland FP-10 for £350

Yamaha P-145 for £300 (£350 but there’s £50 cash back available)

Was originally comparing the FP-10 to the P-45 and I was edging towards the FP-10. Then I find out that the P-45 has been discontinued and there’s an improved version out, the P-145. Now I’m back to the drawing board. Had a surgery and can’t move much so I won’t be able to go in-store to test them.

Consensus online seems to favour the FP-10 but most opinions are before the P-145 released, I also see the FP-10 has better action and I like that it has Bluetooth. To me, the P-145 sounds a bit more bright and vibrant. Was also made aware of a ‘clicking’ issue with the FP-10 which apparently affects all boards with the PHA4 action. But I don’t know if it’s a vocal-minority with this issue or it’s quite common. I just don’t want to spend a lot of money (to me) to get something that could/will have a issue early on. Thanks for reading and apologies, I’m sure you guys are bored with these questions.
