I saw someone post their guide for downloading games on vita3k which was very helpful imo, so I was curious if anyone had any guide for yuzu or any switch emulator. I heard yuzu isn’t in development or something like that, so I’m not sure if it’s even useable, but if anyone can provide a guide for a good switch emulator I would greatly appreciate it.

switxh emulation is pretty straightforward. Get Yuzu 278 (last released version). Get prod keys and firmware (also on the Internet). Download a bunch of turnip drivers Install Yuzu. Add in the prod keys (extract first) and firmware (no need to extract - import as zip). Add games to local storage or SD. Point Yuzu to rom folder and it should populate. Get the game updates for the games and import those in the game options. DLC is optional. The challenge comes in the drivers. If a game doesn't boot initially it doesn't mean it doesn't work. It could mean that the default driver isn't the best. This is where you go into the game options and switch drivers. And make other changes. I'd say get R17 and every turnip driver after that I think they up to version 292 or so. Also make sure NCE is enabled. I tend to set audio to cubeb to stop the crackling. Sometimes you have to change the CPU to high accuracy. Once you get the game running it will remember the settings you have. Not every game will work, some will work but may have slight glitches. Only you can determine what you are willing to put up with in terms of performance As an unfinished emulator it works pretty damn good. I have 80+ switch roms but admittedly most are RPGs. I played through Breath of the Wild, Persona 4, Persona 5, Animal Crossing, Hades, Ori, Mario Kart 8, Luigi Mansion 3, Cuphead, Fight N Rage, and a ton others Games even after the emulator died still work. I played Beyond Good and Evil, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vegeance, Romancing Saga 2 Revenge of the Seven and others.

Change from docked to handheld, (increase fps by up to 25%)

Switch to Vulkan from OpenGL(This is for Windows, do the opposite for linux)

Use FSR as scaling filter however if you don't want to upscale graphics use scaleforce i found it best for myself around 5 fps more than fsr

FSR Setting: i. Performance: Scale- 0.5x Sharpness - Between 30 to 65 depending on your choice i prefer 47 here ii. Balance Between Quality and Performance: Scale- 0.75x Sharpness - Between 50 to 90 Depends mainly on your choice but i prefer 72 here iii. Quality: 1x Scale and 75 to 100 sharpness here i recommend you to use 85 here as it is not to sharp neither too dull after a lot of experimenting if found out (till now) that lower won't affect frame frate or maybe by 1 or 2 which does not matter.

Extra Optimizations (Up to 15% improvement): i. Check your computer specifications if you have an igpu (Intel HD, AMD Radeon graphics): Then go to Emulation, Configure, Graphics Here Set NVDEC Emulation to CPU and no I am not kidding here for me it boosted my fps in Pokemon Violet Docked FSR 0.75 100 Sharpness from 21 average to 23 average. ii. Here only, set the Anti-Aliasing to None (this can boost fps by up to 4 fps or 10%. iii. This is setting is turned on by default but make sure its turned on (boosts fps by up to the amount cores you have, but i believe 3x is the max) Emulation>Configure>System> Core Here Multicore Emulation MUST be turned on else you cannot get above 15 fps no matter how light the game is.

Drivers: Have the best possible gpu drivers for yuzu. This can help a lot in emulation

Windows Optimization: This can increase fps by up to 4 or up to 10: Enable Windows Game Mode and put yuzu in high priority for graphics. To do it: Settings>System>Display>Graphics Here click on browse and locate your yuzu.exe and add it. Now you can its GPU priority to high

Low end pc:

Try a lighter distro: Not specifically yuzu but using something like ubuntu over Windows or 10 over 11 lets you get more free resources that means more frame rates can possibly be achieved but DO NOT use wine.

Textures: Try getting mods for a game if possible to get optimized textures for better frame rates

Enjoy upto 40% fps boost over unoptimized.

For people saying this does NOT work on high end games the post does not tell you to use CPU NVDEC Emulation for discrete GPU it is only for Integrated GPU

Edit: According to a commenter on Linux Vulkan is still better and proved me wrong so i m cutting that off. I have added 2 more optimizations.

Now even more ways to improve frame rates on low end PC

*This also works for Suyu and Sudachi for Ryujinx it is the same concept but the locations of the settings are different.

Nori's Yuzu Guide of Gloom and Dispair:

Things this guide does not cover:

Where to find switch roms.

(The post will be taken down. I think.)

How to install roms and updates.

(I can't be asked, just look up a guide on youtube for Pete's sake.)

Installing Decky Loader.

Installing the Lossless Scaling (LSFG) Decky Plugin.

Downloading Step:

Download Yuzu version 1730 with 17.0.1 firmware and keys.

(Easy enough to find just google for them.)

Game version 1.2.0 for totk.

I don't know if I can give a link so you'll unfortunately just have to google for it :(

If the update says USA or JP it'll still work if you live in Europe. (Or at least, it does for me)

Graphics Settings Step:

Start Yuzu and go into the graphics settings:

Set Window Adapting Filter to FSR (The AMD one)

Set anti-Aliasing to SMAA

Set Accuracy Level to High

Set Anisotropic Filtering to 16x

Set ASTC Recompression Method to Uncompressed (Best Quality)

Set VRAM Usage Mode to Aggressive.

Go into advanced graphics settings and tick only: 1, 3, 5, 6, 8

Go two up from graphics settings to system settings and under "Core" set Memory Layout to 6GB DRAM.

Keep all other settings on default.

Controller Setup:

Start Yuzu and go into controller settings.

Underneath "Connect Controller" Set the controller to "Pro Controller"

Underneath "Input Device" Set it to "Steam Virtual Gamepad 0"

Then click "ok" at the bottom right with the green tick.

How to use motion controls in games like Mario Odyssey to throw Cappy:

In gaming mode click the gear icon on the same tab as Yuzu's play button and go into properties.

Scroll down in the "Shortcut" tab.

Set the game resolution to 1920 : 1200.

(If 1920 : 1200 doesn't work, keep changing the resolution until the button appears.)

(Also remember to change it back to default resolution after the guide or games won't start and Yuzu will crash.)

This allows us to unveil an extremely important hidden button called "Motion 1"

Start Yuzu (IN GAMING MODE)

Go back into controller settings.

Make sure Motion (Not Motion 1) is ticked. (I'd tick vibration too but it's optional)

Click the button under Motion that says configure.

If they aren't already set for some reason:

Set Server to 127.0.0.1.

Set Port to 26760.

Then click test and shake your steam deck a bit. (Not too harshly, I don't want you dropping it.)

If it detects motion then it'll say: "Successfully received data from the server."

If not... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Sorry, I genuinely don't know what to do if it doesn't say that because it always has for me.)

Press the newly exposed "Motion 1" Button and then shake your steam deck yet again.

Where you initially pressed it should now say something some other thing.

(It doesn't show me what it says anymore but the motion controls still work.)

(If it says "mouse" or "mouse 1" that means you accidentally clicked the button again and it thought you wanted to set it to your mouse. Press it and shake your deck again... Ayoo.)

At the bottom left, make sure it's set to docked mode instead of handheld mode.

Then click "ok" again.

Steam Controller Settings:

Press the controller icon next to Yuzu's play button.

Click Edit Layout.

Click Gyro.

Switch GYRO BEHAVIOR from none to Directional Pad.

Steam Deck Performance Settings:

Set Frame Limit to 60fps (60 Hz)

Turn Allow Tearing on.

Enable Manual GPU Clock and set the slider to the max (1600 MHz)

Keep Scaling Mode on auto.

Set Scaling Filter to Sharp.

Set the Sharpness slider to max (5)

PowerTools settings:

Install the PowerTools decky plugin.

Max out the sliders for minimum and max Frequency Limits.

Do the same with Power Play Limits and on the second Frequency Limits.

Set "Governor" to Performance.

Turn "Persistent Profile" on.

Things to know:

I got 30fps in totk without LSFG. 60fps with LSFG.

Smooth 60fps with not much input lag after about half an hour to an hour. (For me.)

You don't need LSFG for most games to reach 60fps so remember to turn it off after playing demanding games like totk or botw to avoid unneeded ghosting and input lag.

Whenever using LSFG on any emulator, set the resolution of your roms to 1080p.

(It tends to lessens the side effects)

For Mario Odyssey I couldn't update it to 1.4.1 (Yuzu crashed every time) so just find and install update 1.3.0

BOOM. DONE.

Congrats on making it through this annoying ass process. I hope this guide wasn't terrible to follow. It is my first ever time making a guide, but it was really fun to make.

I welcome any and all criticism and questions.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk. Have a nice day!

August 11, 2015 - Guide · TOTK still is very hard for most emulators to run and my specs are pretty baseline too. I tried Ryujinx and sudachi and yuzu and eden even but none of them ran it any better, there was either constant stuttering or slide show level frames, brother I even gave up on it and moved on till I found the "Switch games Final Boss Emulator"==>CITRON ·

May 16, 2025 - It's the most comprehensive and consistently up-to-date resource on emulation I know of. Right now, Sudachi, Citron, and Eden (all forks of Yuzu) are probably the best as far as performance/having good FPS while running Switch games.

a) find yourself Yuzu or Ryujinx, preferably appimages. I think Emudeck gets Ryujinx now. b) get yourself the roms etc, this is for you to do and we can't help you c) read the Emudeck online documentation for each emulator d) put the roms in the right place and play the games. If you search this reddit there's a ton of info.

If you go to emudeck after downloading one of the said emulators, go to Yuzu in the Emulators tab and it will show you where to place the file(preferably an Appimage file) Make sure you have the keys and firmware downloaded(19.0) is likely the best option here. Open your emulator of choice and select "Install" firmware and put the keys inside the keys folder of said emulators. Make sure you put your switch games in the emudeck/roms/switch folder and you should be all set! Sometimes controls don't work right away until you change to the controller of your choice so make sure to do that once or use the "Emudeck controller hotkeys" steam input with Select + R3 to open up the controller menu. You can also use Steam Rom Manager to add them all to your library if you like, or just launch the emulators/ES through game mode! If you need any additional help let me know! I've learned a few things just from a few months of emulating on the Deck Games that work pretty good on Deck for me so far have been Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,Pikmin 3&4,Metroid Dread,Super Mario 3D World,Monkey Ball Rumble, etc. Basically had very minor to no issues what so ever on these games

2. Yuzu Settings

Optimize Yuzu based emulators for better performance with the following settings(Based on the Eden emulator)

🔧 System Tab

  • Multicore CPU Emulation: ✅ Enabled

Leverages multi-threaded CPU emulation for better performance. If you experience instability, disable and test again.

  • Memory Layout: 8GB DRAM

Simulates the Switch’s memory. Use 6GB or 8GB if your system has 16GB or more RAM.

  • Synchronize Core Speed / Limit Speed Percent: ✅ Enabled

Prevents CPU speed drift and desync issues. Try disabling if you get irregular frame pacing.

🖼️ Graphics Tab – General Settings(Optimized for NVIDIA GPUs)

  • API: Vulkan

Delivers the best performance on NVIDIA GPUs compared to OpenGL.

  • Device: Select your NVIDIA GPU manually

Avoid using None by mistake

  • Use disk pipeline cache: ✅ Enabled

Caches shaders to reduce stuttering in areas with lots of effects.

  • Use asynchronous GPU emulation: ✅ Enabled

Offloads GPU tasks more efficiently, ideal for NVIDIA cards.

  • Resolution Scaling: 1x (Native 720p)

For low-end NVIDIA GPUs (GTX 1050 Ti or lower), try 0.75x or 0.5x.

  • FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution): Highly recommended

Apply through mods or command line; improves visuals at lower resolutions with minimal performance cost.

  • VSync Mode: Off

Disabling reduces input latency and avoids frame pacing issues.

🎛️ Graphics Tab – Advanced Settings

  • Accuracy Level: Normal

Optimal for both stability and speed on NVIDIA drivers.

  • Anisotropic Filtering: 16x

Improves texture quality with almost zero performance impact.

  • VRAM Usage Mode: Normal or High

NVIDIA GPUs handle VRAM well; “High” is fine if you have 4GB+ VRAM.

  • Force maximum clocks (Vulkan only): ✅ Enabled

Prevents NVIDIA GPUs from downclocking mid-game. Recommended for desktop users.

  • Use asynchronous shader building / Fast GPU Time: ✅ Enabled

Reduces shader stutter significantly. Works well on Pascal and newer architectures.

I know you all probably see this all the time, but for newbies its kinda hard know where a legitimate source is for all the keys, firmware and even install instructions.

I would appreciate any help, direction or resources for installing the yuzu and finding legit switch roms. Direct messages would probably be the safest route. I know you arent supposed to post that kind of stuff on here.

Thank you so much
