Good plywood on top from Boulter Plywood north of Boston (a 3 hour round trip for me). Horrible plywood from Lowe’s (a 15 min round trip for me). Both are 3/4” “Maple” plywood, but I swear the Lowe’s wood has a finish on it. It is shiny and very smooth. The inner ply’s are garbage. I normally don’t mind exposed plywood edges on my personal projects but I can’t do that with the Lowe’s wood.
I now understand why the HomeDepot ply gets a bad rap - it's just so inconsistent on my little diode machine.
If i search for laser cutter plywood, I get a thousand places wanting to sell me little 12-24" pieces of wood. That's bigger than my cut volume, but that's going to be so wasteful if I need to cut something 8"x8", for example.
Naturally i can't expect a 4x8ft sheet to be shipped to me, so it probably needs to be a local supplier. Is there a grade of ply i am looking for?
I usually buy sheets of 1/2” 4x8 whitewood plywood that I cut into 20” squares for signs.
It’s been $55 forever but just jumped up to $75 in a little over a week. That’s like a 35% jump.
Any idea what happened? That’s crazy
I have a project with requires about 70 pieces of 1/8" thick wood, 5.5"x7.25", plus a few other pieces. Basically, I need a 4x8 sheet's worth of 1/8" wood.
Home depot sells 4x8 sheets of 1/8" thick hardboard which would work but wouldn't be as nice. I could redesign the whole project to use 1/4" material but that would be a pain and it would end up larger than I'd like.
So, is it possible to find sheets of 1/8" wood? If so, where should I be looking? Or should I just use hardboard? Is MDF an option?
Cost is a factor. Also, I don't really know what I'm doing so feel free to make other suggestions.
Thanks!
I want to get a plywood cut to 4 feet to 6 feet. I think the standard size is 4*8. Does Home depot or Lowe's cut the sheet? I don't mind a cutting fee.
