Just curious lol, was watching the Apple Event video and when they mentioned AirPods Pro 2 instead of 2nd generation, I initially felt disappointed as I thought the updates were coming to a new AirPods Pro instead of an update to the existing 2nd generation.

They’ve really jumbled up everything. They sell two entirely different models under the same name (AirPods 4 with and without ANC), with really no clear idea on the differences between both on their product pages. And now this name change today, they should’ve named it AirPods Pro 2 from the start instead of going for all the “generation” branding.

I believe Apple has discontinued AirPods 2nd generation, which fit the best to me. The newer generations are uncomfortable and fall out.
My question is if you buy a pair of the 2nd Gen AirPods and don’t use/open them will they not work and or the battery degrade? Say you don’t open them for a year.

Obviously they’ve survived this long in boxes since I saw them on amazon before the keynote. How long they will survive like that I don’t know. If you’ve already tried the gen 4 which I’ve heard are an improvement on gen 3 (I’m using the gen 4s but never had the 3’s). Then if it were me I’d certainly risk trying keeping a spare set of gen 2’s

Yes, on Apple's website the AirPods 2nd Generation are discontinued, you can still buy them from Walmart & Amazon (which have them for 89 USD) or any other Apple Authorized store.
