September 21, 2024 - I think if you've had Pro's in the past you'll be disappointed with the ANC. However, how much cancellation it actually does achieve is great. The Pro's sound much better (as expected). ... ANC with earbuds of any kind is a joke. I have the AirPods Pro, and at most they can mitigate about 5-10 DB from a noisy environment.

First of all, neither of the airPod 4 models have silicon tips which is exactly what I wanted. As far as audio quality is concerned, I am absolutely blown away by the impressive audio quality of these totally wireless earbuds. They are more than adequate for listening to music. There are probably other brands/models of earbuds with better ANC, but if noise cancellation isn't your top priority, these should be perfectly adequate.

October 16, 2024 - I’ve been able to use the AirPods 4 with ANC over the last few weeks, including on an airplane, and my feelings are… well, they’re mixed. On the one hand, the fact that you can get noise cancellation on base AirPods is amazing. Their hard plastic body means that they can’t make a soft seal like the silicone tips on the AirPods Pro can, so there’s more outside audio leakage to compensate for.

To switch between listening modes, tap Noise Cancellation or Transparency. To select the listening modes that you want to use with the force sensor on your AirPods 4 (ANC) or AirPods Pro, or with the noise control button on your AirPods Max, select two or three modes under Button Cycles Between.

September 22, 2024 - I got my new AirPods 4 on Friday and I’m loving them. The noise cancellation is really astounding and for someone who lives in an urban environment, I really appreciate it. I never really got to loving the AirPods 3. They would eject themselves from my ears a lot, causing damage to them.

September 20, 2024 - Obviously it’s not as good right on the comparison spec sheet in Apple it says “active Noise canceling” then under AirPod 2 pros it says “2x active noise canceling” so Apple openly admits it’s only about half as good. Still a cool feature with lack of tips tho. ... Got mine today and they’re really decent, it’s noticeably quieter with noise cancellation turned on. Pros obviously block more noise but I wouldn’t say it’s entirely on the ANC. The pros are noice isolations + ANC, the 4s are just ANC.
