I was speechless when my boyfriend told me the news. I just shut down and didn't speak for a while. Might seem like a weird reaction to some but let me explain. My health is crap and I'm stuck indoors. New World's stellar environmental and sound design lets me enjoy the outdoors from my pc chair. The colours, the lighting, the landscape...all so beautiful. It never got old for me. 2k hours played and I spent most of it gathering and fishing. My favourite thing to do was just be out in the world. I want to say thank you to the devs for making a world that has brought me a lot of joy, and was one of the things that kept me going on many dark days. I'm devastated. There are other games I love but there is nothing else like New World. I don't know what could possibly fill that void. Probably nothing ever will. Fml I'm so god damn sad about this. r/MMORPG on Reddit: Amazon mass layoffs are hitting New World.
October 28, 2025 -
In a sweeping layoff, Amazon is getting rid of 30k+ people today, and in the future they will remove more and more to replace them with AI.
New World is feeling these layoffs, some people are missing from the discord, and artists are posting on Twitter talking about being laid off. We don't know the full extent of the layoffs yet, as they're going out this morning.
I'm worried for the future of the game.
Edit Update: The Amazon Employees subreddit is saying the entire Irvine AGS studio is gone. That's the one that runs New World.
Edit Update 2: Amazon Games jobs listings do not have the Irvine site listed. Probably confirmation New World is cooked.
Edit Update 3: The AGS LinkedIn page no longer exists. I think we might be cooked cooked.

Explains why they don't want to open new servers even though they have queues of players waiting to get in. They can't/won't commit long-term. Could also explain why Nighthaven was free. I also remember someone from the NW discord noting that official AGS members were missing from the Discord, and that comment got deleted very quickly. Edit for additional context: The lead dev, Katy, said recently that they "cannot" open new servers in response to server queues. I immediately thought that verbage of "cannot" was strange and suggested something rumbling behind the scenes, turns out to be the case.
