Anker Prime 12,000mAh Power Bank review: Petite pocketable power
A fast-charging power bank with enough juice for a MacBook. And it fits in the of your hand. As a photographer, I need a power bank for my iPhone, MacBook, and camera that I can stash in a backpack while traveling on my motorcycle. A small power bank like the Anker Prime 12,000mAh Power Bank is ideal. Design & build Measuring 5.29 by 2.17 by 1.36 inches (13.4 by 5.5 by 3.5 centimeters), the Power Bank is very compact with its 12,000 mAh power capacity, and its brick design sits comfortably in the hand. It comes with a 2-foot (150-centimeter) USB-C charging cable and a soft transport bag.

12,000 mAh Anker Prime Power Bank
This is the model I would choose too. I don't really need it, my phone battery has never let me down in a day, but I do admire this power bank alot! More on reddit.com

Anker Prime power bank is slow and expensive (Never goes beyond 30 watts)
The charger is working exactly as it's supposed to and there is nothing wrong with it. The power bank will only charge at the power level that your device requests. There are only a few phones that charge more than 25W, even fewer that will go over 45W. Anker don't say it "will" charge at 65W per port, they say it can charge "up to" 65W per port. I', sorry if you didn't understand how USB or most charging systems work, but nothing will make a device that is built correctly charge faster than the highest power that all three components; the charger, the cable, and device can support. [US] Order 723 PowerCore Prime 12K EARLY | Anker's Largest Portable Charger With No USB-A Ports!
I am still baffled as to why Anker decided to crank up the wattages on these devices. The Max single port output on the 723 is still 65W, and the capacity is still too small to charge even an iPad Pro 11-inch to 100%. At the 130W max output, I do not see this thing lasting for more than 10 minutes before overheating, not minding the fact few people even have devices that can accept a combined 130W input across 2 USB-C ports. Pretty much everyone buys a small powerbank to charge their phones, maybe their tablets while on the go. This powerbank, for $90, can’t do either of these that well because it’s unnecessarily big to dissipate the heat it can’t dissipate, and when you want to use the high output for charging a laptop, it doesn’t have the thermal management, or the battery capacity to sustain it for long. 45-60W is the absolute maximum this class of powerbank should have for output. 200W output on the mid-tier model, which I think has a 72Wh capacity, is just insane. Again, this thing will run for like 20 minutes on a charge, then it’s out of juice, if it manages to not overheat first. Again, the output is too high for this class of product, even if it’s intended to charge laptops, 100W is the max useable output on this class. I mean, Baseus has a 100W ultra-compact battery with the same capacity as this one. Not only does it not overheat, nobody complains about it only having a 100W output. The 250W model, minus the 250W output, does actually make sense, as with a 100Wh capacity, it has the juice to justify high outputs, just not beyond 200W. The dealbreaker with this powerbank, is the fact it only has 2 USB-C ports. Unless you are a power user who has 2 16” MacBook Pros, which for now are the ONLY laptops that support the USB EPR standard for 140W charging, there’s just no way you can get anywhere near the 250W max output. Now with this thing’s large size, I do see this thing sorta being able to handle to 250W output, but unlike with the smaller powerbanks, this one doesn’t have the USB-C ports necessary to take advantage of that capability. It needs at least 4 USB-C ports, to be honest. TL;DR Anker went too far above and beyond with the outputs on these powerbanks, disregarding battery longevity, temperature, and for the 250W model, the number of ports. At least with the 140W Anker 737 powerbank, the average person could get fairly close to that max output, so 140W, which high, did make sense. However, the capacity on these powerbanks are far too small to justify their high outputs. But, you know, they make for great marketing material. More on reddit.com

Anker Prime 12k 130W Review/Comparison
Thank you for the very detailed post and pictures! This is the only one of the new series of Prime batteries that does NOT support the Anker App. I believe only the largest 27,650 mAh version supports the app. Two omni-directional (in/out) usb-c ports removes some of the control you would normally have with some batteries specifically having an out-only port. If you connected some of Anker's previous portable chargers to a device that could either charge or be charged, pressing the button before plugging in the device would ensure the power bank was outputting. Have you found something similar works with this? Extremely glossy front. Anker has been releasing so many glossy devices lately... I'm not a big fan More on reddit.com

r/anker on Reddit: Anker Prime 12k 130W Review/Comparison
August 10, 2023 -

Okay, my Anker Prime 12k 130W power bank came in today. I am coming from primarily using (and loving) both the Anker PowerCore 737 24k 140W, and daily carrying the Anker PowerCore 10k 25W Redux - which is the perfect pocket size.

Product side-by-side and size

(left to right)

  • PowerCore 10k 18W Redux

  • Prime 12k 130W

  • PowerCore 737 24k 140W

  • PowerCore Reserve 548 60k 65W

Side by side with the (left to right) 10k, 12k, 24k, and 60k

I am coming from the 10k redux (left), and I'm not sure if this will work as an every-day-carry replacement. It will most likely power my Pinecil v2 well.

Screen comparison

The interface is slightly more similar to the Reserve 584 than it is to the 737.

Between the 737 and the new 12k, the 12k has a brighter screen. It also allows you to to change the screen brightness, which is a nice addition.

Side-by-side of the 737 next to the new 12k. The 12k is charging the 737 at 55W. Picture of the screen brightness menu on the new 12k

There is also the option to change the screen timeout length (options are 30s, 1m, 2m, 5m) This is a nice improvement over the 737, which could only be turned off or permanently on.

Facts/opinions/observations/limitations

Quick-fire facts/opinions/observations. Some are good, some are bad. Take them as you will, this is a review.

  • Unlike the 737, this battery does not support being charged while in use. The 737 can be used as a USB-C uninterruptable power supply. This device cannot. Furthermore, it does not handle being plugged in to power while powering another device very well.

  • This battery does NOT support the Anker App. You gotta get the biggest one, the Prime 27k, if you want app-enabled.

  • It does come with the new connectors for a wireless charging pad on the bottom. I'm debating getting the charging pad, but 100W on my desktop sounds nice. Unfortunately this battery will only charge at 65W even on the wireless charger.

  • The size and weight feel good in your hand. I have smaller/weaker hands, and it is much easier to hold and carry around than the 737.

The 12k in my hand
  • It is much larger than my every-day-carry 10k Redux, for only carrying an additional 2,000 mAh.

    • Obviously the additional weight and size comes from the screen, the 65W in/130W out capacity, and the 65W wireless charging on the bottom.

12k Side by side with the PowerCore 10k 12k Side by side with the PowerCore 10k
  • Two omni-directional (in/out) usb-c ports removes some of the control you would normally have with some batteries specifically having an out-only port. Charging this battery off of another battery's in/out port will cause unexpected results.

  • Extremely glossy front. I had to repeatedly wipe and clean the whole front of the battery each time I touched it when I took photos.

photo of the 12k highlighting the glossy front
  • When you plug the 737 into itself, it makes a cute little face and does not have any issues, nor does it discharge the battery in any way.

Video of the 737 being plugged into itself and showing a cute little easter-egg face.
  • When you plug the 12k into itself, it can't figure out what to do, and eventually begins discharging 0.2-0.3W.

Very compact and powerful. I don’t have any larger devices so I choose the smaller 12,000 mAh model. I immediately tried to order a second, but it was sold out. Charges up very fast. Took less than an hour to go from 21% to100% at 67w. This just became my go-to juice box.

With a capacity of 12,000 mAh it can fully recharge the iPhone 14PM twice. A very handy little juice box. The one thing I do not like was it’s lack of a USB A port, but is not a big deal because nearly everything is going to USB-C Came with a 100w USB-C cable and a carrying pouch.

Power Banks - Anker US
The size of your power bank depends on your specific charging needs. For everyday electronics like smartphones, earbuds, or similar devices, a power bank with a capacity of around 10,000mAh might be perfect.
