The charging block for my MacBook pro is so heavy that it can’t support itself on higher plugs, so it doesn’t charge properly. Is this normal? Is there a solution? - Quora
Answer (1 of 6): No. It’s not. But due to the powerful CPUs that are placed in the MBP. I use a solution called a basket. I always keep a few old shampoo bottles because of it. ^^ So. Take an old shampoo bottle, that’s empty in soap and rinse it from any leftovers, once rinsed, dry thoroughly.

Why does the Mac charger come apart? - Quora
Answer (1 of 7): I am assuming you’re referring to the design of the charger and not damage that has occurred to yours. The brick itself is a two-piece design and is intended to come apart. The corner with the wall plug slides off so that you can replace it with an optional extension cord or with...

My Apple MacBook charger is always falling out of the wall outlet, how can I get it to stay plugged in? - Quora
Answer (1 of 12): My (mid-2012) MacBook Pro came with these: If you have both, then remove the “Short plug” and hook up the long cable. Then you won’t have the weight of the brick pulling itself out of the outlet.

r/apple on Reddit: Serious Question: Do Apple devices have an algorithm that blocks third party cables/chargers?
January 27, 2019 -

So I’ve had an iPhone and MacBook Pro for about a year now.

Someone stole my MacBook charging brick.

Anyways I bought a replacement third party brick on amazon. Anyways, I noticed that quite frequently I’ll plug it in, the MacBook will recognize it, but it won’t charge. I will have to unplug and replug it in a few times and eventually it will charge.

I figured that it was the cable that came with it so i bought an official apple cable. Nope, same issue.

I tried plugging one of my old android USB c phones into the brick to see if it actually is the brick being trash. Nope charges my old android phone fine.

I wondered if this was an apple thing so I did an experiment with my iPhone:

  • If I plug a non MFI cable into an official brick, it works.

  • If I plug a non Apple MFI cable into an unofficial brick sometimes it doesn’t.

  • if I plug an official apple cable into an unofficial brick it usually works.

  • If I plug a non MFI cable into a non official brick it usually won’t work. But if I mess around by plugging and unplugging both ends sometimes it will start charging.

In my previous experience with android devices, you could buy the shittiest of the shit accessories and they work fine. But with Apple I find that unless you buy official or certified, they won’t always work. Sometimes even the certified non official cables have issues from my experience.

This can’t just be a shitty hardware thing, can it? Or did Apple program their devices to actively block third party cables and chargers? I know in some cases you get a warning that the cable isn’t certified, but I rarely see that warning when using non MFI cables.

November 6, 2021 - You can slide the broken piece off and replace it for less than $30 with an extension cable from apples website ... That charger cost a hell of a lot more then that plastic adapter so I would fix it right and buy that adapter. TBH I think most of us have a bunch of those laying around LOL. ... Same happened to me, and it eventually all comes apart. Got a new one at a computer repair store for $35
