Was given an iPad (Mini, cellular model) recently as a gift. Would like to create an Apple ID for it but don't want to give them my mobile phone number. I understand it's required for authentication and 2FA (why SMS instead of OTP app based in 2021, I have no idea), but since cellular iPad's don't have phone functionality, I can't use the number from the sim card I insert in it.

I was thinking of virtual numbers, but have no experience with them don't know if they're safe. My limited search-fu on DDG and Startpage yielded results that ranged from rather suspect to extremely expensive. Maybe I'm searching wrong?

All I need is a number that can receive text messages from Apple. Preferably cheap, private (meaning not shared with a gazillion people like the free options) and privacy respecting. Ideally, something where I can just log into a web interface on a browser to check messages. I don't mind paying (preferably cheap), and I don't mind if it's a US number (I don't live there) since I can just create the Apple ID while tunneling to a US server and buy US App Store gift cards for payments.

What are my options?

I just got an iPad and I need to make an apple ID. I don't own a phone and for the sake of my question please do not say just use someone else's phone number that I know. Is there any way to work around the two-factor authentication with the phone number? I put in my email address to create an account and it just leads me to a screen where I need to put in a phone number for two factor authentication. I never enabled or selected two factor authentication so I don't know why this is the default setting. Also, I tried signing up both in the setting and on the app store and got the same problem. Please let me know if you know of any solutions, thanks!

I run a single person business and need to use a separate apple account to track my purchases. I do not want to use my personal apple ID.

However, I only have one phone, and I don't have a separate number for my business. Why is it mandatory to provide a new phone number to sign up for an apple ID?

Is there a work around for this?

I have a friend who was an international student, who used an old iphone during his 2 years here (USA). He didn't have a phone number, and would communicate with people whenever he was hooked up to wifi through facebook messenger.

This got me thinking. I always see people online say it's "literally impossible" to use the internet and be anonymous and not have your internet usage tracked to you.

However I fail to understand how this is the case. Lets say I go into a store and buy an iphone with cash. Then, in public places such as starbucks, I connect to the internet and use my new iphone to browse the internet.

I never download instagram, facebook, none of that BS. I never make a gmail account. I never buy anything with a credit card or put my address in. How in the world would "they" be able to track my search history and internet usage to "me?" (And what does "me" even mean? Is it my legal name, is it my email address?).

Please let me know if and/or why I would be wrong about this being a viable way to use an iphone while maintaining complete anonymity and privacy.

Do I need this number again if I create the account with a disposable sim?

I’m currently working for a company who is using Apple Business for the first time, and we are switching over all company devices to Apple IDs made through ABM. I’m curious if there is a way around needing to use a phone number for authentication on every iPad as we don’t have a 1:1 on phone numbers and iPads. Any suggestions?

I tried to set up a Verizon plan, but they require an IMEI, which I don’t have because I don't own a phone yet. My question is pretty dumb, and it's exactly like the title worded. I just gave my mom an Ipad for her birthday. However, we are on our vacation in SE Asia, and are using burner SIM right now, so I don't have any "trusted phone number" I can use to receive text message.

Can I make an Apple ID without a phone number verification? And if I use a burner number, will it affect her future use in anyway? I will fly back to the US, and my parents will go to their home country after the vacation, and she doesn't know anything about technology to mess with all the setting to change the number later.
