For anybody finding this thread in 2025 - I just got a return exception through apple online sales support. Tell them you are buying a more expensive model as the reason for the return. Answer from No-Bar3380 on reddit.com

r/apple on Reddit: What's up with Apple's return policy? Only 14 days!
February 10, 2017 -

I bought my g/f the 10.5" ipad pro / keyboard to congratulate her on a promotion at work. The kb was bought online at the apple store and ipad online at target.

While grateful, my g/f decided she was happy with the mini 4 and asked me to return (items are still sealed). All this happening while I was out of town for 2 weeks. Just finding out that Apple's return policy is only 14 days which is too late for return while Target is allowing me 5 weeks. Other stores such as Best Buy, Microsoft store, etc are all 30 days.

I live 4 hours from the closest apple store so I cant try in person meanwhile Apple's online support says no exceptions.

So why, Apple of all companies are stingy with a 2 week return window? I can sell it on ebay, etc but it's a hassle and quite disappointing.

I bought AirPods Pro on 4th November, so the return window would have closed 18th November (Last Friday). I noticed Apple will be doing gift cards for Black Friday with AirPods (Up to £75, so probably £50 for AirPods Pro) which hurts having bought them so recently.

But I went to my orders page anyway, clicked "check return eligibility" and it's allowed me to open a return, and says I need to return them by 6th Dec. Will this actually get accepted or is this an extended window for sealed items?

r/applehelp on Reddit: Getting a refund after 14 days?
September 19, 2023 -

I recently purchased 2 Apple pencils (had 3 iPads but only 1 pencil before). On the Apple Store app, the top result for Apple Pencil is the usb-c variant. I assumed that was the latest one and got two of those. It’s been like 20 days now and I’ve noticed after a day of not touching one, it loses connection and won’t pair until I connect it with a cable. This happens on both of my usb-c pencils. iPads are all pros. The issue is that I am a pilot and use the iPad in the cockpit. Connection issues mid flight are a huge pain.

Is there any chance the store would allow a late refund? I just want to give these back and purchase the 2nd gen ones.

Spoke with an Apple customer service rep who said that an in-store purchase can be returned for up to 30 days with no issue and that every Apple Store would honor this.

I purchased an iPhone 16 Pro a couple weeks ago just to try out the smaller size before I decided which 17 Pro to order (been using the Max for years). I totally forgot that the phones are only available for pre-order at first though, so needed a little extra time on my current device. I’ll return it after I switch everything over from the new one.

Either way I’m fine because I have the recorded call confirming I’m good. Just curious about everyone else’s experience.

r/apple on Reddit: Using 14 day return policy as trial period
June 3, 2014 -

I'm considering buying the MacBook One. I've read a bunch of reviews, tried it out in store, but I feel like I'll just need to use it for a week or two to know for sure if I want to keep it. Is using the return policy as a trial period frowned upon at the Apple Store? Am I going to get any hassle for returning it just because I didn't like it?

I initiated a return for a macbook air I bought 12 days ago. It would be the 14th day since I bought it on November 6. But it says on the return page, "Print a free return shipping label and send this item back to Apple by November 18, 2024."

Does it mean I can sent it on or before that date? Or does it mean apple has to receive it by that time?

I ordered a mac mini m4 pro instead, but it's gonna take a a whole month before I receive it. It would be nice if I could use this mac for a few more days before the mac mini arrives.

November 19, 2020 - Bought a MacBook at the beginning ... talked to the people at the Apple store and they basically said I always have 14 days to return anything no questions asked, and I’m free to buy whatever. So I bought and returned the 2015 MacBook Pro over and over until the 2016 models ...

r/ipad on Reddit: Apple Store tolerance for 14-day change of mind
June 14, 2024 -

Apple appears to have some sort of soft limits on their change of mind policy, so it's important to choose carefully. However, I personally think that their 14-day change of mind policy is excellent. As a customer, I've always felt well taken care of by Apple.

For example, I had quite a dilemma choosing between the iPad Air and the iPad Pro, and I couldn't decide between the 11-inch and the 13-inch models. I ended up exchanging my device around six or seven times within the policy period. Throughout this process, I found the Apple Store staff to be very welcoming, understanding, and more than happy to process my exchanges.

However, there does seem to be a tolerance threshold. By the sixth exchange, it became clear that I had reached this soft limit. That final time, I settled on purchasing an iPad Pro 11-inch 256 GB in silver. This experience taught me that while Apple’s change of mind policy is generous, it's not intended as a free pass to keep changing devices indefinitely.

In summary, while Apple's 14-day change of mind policy is very accommodating, there are soft limits to how often you can exchange products. So, it's best to make your choices carefully. Despite this, I still believe the policy is a great benefit for Apple customers.

r/apple on Reddit: Will Apple Stores accept a return after 14 days?
February 7, 2016 -

I got an apple watch for Christmas, which I absolutely love as a fun gadget. There are two reasons however I want to return it.

  1. It not a necessity. I don't get a TON of use out of it outside of notifications and workout stuff.

  2. I just found out my wife is pregnant and an extra $440 right now would go a long way in planning for the upcoming baby...

Sooooo...will the apple store have any leniency in accepting a return outside of 14 days? I opened the gift Christmas day, so we are sitting right about 3 weeks now. Is it worth a shot?

EDIT The watch has very minimal show of wear - a tiny scuff on the face, and the band is pretty much mint condition.

r/apple on Reddit: Return policy abuse
September 14, 2021 -

The number of people totally down with, advocating for, and participating in returning laptops is horrifying.

Seems like every post you see some variation of buy the in stock version and return it when your order arrives type of comment, either to skirt delivery times or to test out different spec levels.

Apple in my opinion has an extremely generous return policy for such expensive devices, but everyone should check themselves on how they decide to use/abuse it.

With the frequency I see of this echo chamber’s shouts for abuse, I figure it won’t be long before Apple amends their policy and introduces protections to prevent someone buying a$2k-$5k device only to return it a month or two later when their order arrives.
