Is Ashley Furniture a decent brand?
Anyone have experience with the furniture outlet on Elston? What did you think?
i went there a couple of times between august and september 2015. i had moved to Chicago from out of town, and i had to replace a couple of items. i had an overall good experience. the gentleman that owns and runs the place is straightforward, understands the clientele, and knows his store very well. i also visited Ashley Furniture store in Niles because most of the items he has are a subset of AF's catalogue (he outright told me to check it out). some of the items he has are cheaper, including the sofa i wanted. in the end, it was cheapest online (i regretted ordering online, though, because the $70 i saved was somewhat offset by the three week delivery time). i did return to his store to buy a dresser, bc they had a good selection, and i was happy to give him some business.
just addl info: there's a flat $50 delivery fee, which i think is very reasonable if youre getting some large items and its worth renting a truck/carrying it yourself).

Check out Andersonville -- it's a bit north of the city but is sort of a cluster of cool furniture places. They all seem to buy old furniture and redo it quite nicely. Scout is definitely the bombest place. And when you're hungry eat some yuppie brunch at M. Henrys -- holy magiscience is it good.
Most of the stores aren't cheap, but there are a bunch of antique or second hand shops that you can gravedig and find good things at if you're into putting in a lot of time to sand and repaint.
Other than that, craigslist or IKEA.
