January 17, 2024 - In a recent communication, AWS informed its users about the enforcement of a ban on reselling Reserved Instances acquired at discounted rates via the Amazon EC2 Reserved Instance Marketplace.

For a while now, companies have been able to save up by selling their unused Reserved Instances (RIs), especially those they bought at discounted rates from promotional programs. But as of January 15, 2024, AWS has banned this deal.

These limits apply to the lifetime of your AWS account, not on an annual basis. You can sell up to $50,000 worth of Reserved Instances. You can sell up to 5,000 Reserved Instances.
