This was the easiest bench grinder for me to get my hands on, and the listing says that it is a new item. I figured hand cranked bench grinders aren't too sophisticated, so it should be comparable to anything else, but it came with free shipping. Sold through Walmart by a vendor called Findkings.

It looks like it was used until it gummed up with dirt, then was resold. You'd be better off getting a vintage tool somewhere that you can actually inspect. The spindle does turn and does not show a lot of variation, which is good. There are a lot of chips in the paint, the handle has marks in it, and the parts themselves aren't very nice in terms of castings.

I have already cleaned it and greased/oiled it, but I still have work to do, because the spindle is about 1/2" too small in diameter for the wheel. Easy enough to print some conical washer adapters, but annoying. I will also be printing or making a larger tool rest so I can sharpen plane blades easily.

I'm not really complaining because I got a tool that works, but I wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is looking to get one of these.

Does anyone have any experience with the brand of grinding wheel and how well it works?
