Only 2 of them actually new what they were doing and after 10 different stores in my service area all closed their bay due to not having a qualified/worthy Installer it was just myself and one other Installer. It became too much of a mess to be an installer, sales associate, and service writer without the pay. So we parted ways, and now that service bay is closed as well. It was a fun job, especially as a seasoned installer getting to install, take you to make things right, and still get paid hourly. Now that you read my rant. It just depends on the store you go to and how good their Installer is. You can get an amazing job done for well worth your money if you get the right installer or vise versa. Most stores do not offer installation services anymore. Car installations are becoming a bygone era as most people drive cars manufactured within the last 10-15 years. Those cars routinely have CarPlay/Bluetooth already making installations an obsolete service. In the next few years, you will see BBY stop that completely. More on reddit.com

Does Best Buy no longer offer car stereo receiver installations (paid or included with stereo purchase)? I've been wanting to upgrade my old car's stereo unit and now that I'm ready to buy, I see "installation may be available, but you'll need to choose a different store location" and no location near 250 miles around me seem to offer it. For reference, I was looking to buy a Sony unit with Apple CarPlay SKU: 6480147

There are still stores with bays but yeah it’s a dwindling market. My store has a bay but I think we are the only one in the area; our installers are regularly busy.

Yes, the membership still includes free standard installation of all car audio equipment bought from Best Buy. This includes car receivers, speakers, amplifiers, and subwoofers. It also covers free installation of select car security and navigation systems.
To get free installation, you must purchase the car audio equipment from Best Buy and have it installed by a Geek Squad Autotech. Free installation is not available on do-it-yourself (DIY) installations.

First off, here's the obligatory post about how the call center is useless and how I wish I could talk to the store directly. I'm sure for simple issues like inventory the call center is fine, but for specialized questions they don't really cut it.
Anyway - I'm looking to get a CarPlay unit and backup camera installed in my car. I scheduled the appointment for next week even though I hadn't picked out the specific unit yet just because I wanted to lock in the date. When I scheduled the appointment, it said it would be something like $400 for these installs, but I ignored that since the unit I'm purchasing supposedly comes with free installation. So - here's my questions:
Can I buy the items from bestbuy.com and have them shipped to me, and then bring them with me to my installation appointment and have them honor the free installation? Or do I need to buy them specifically from the store where the installation is being done?
IF I do need to buy them from the store, can I purchase them on bestbuy.com for in-store pickup from that store? Or do I need to actually go in and buy them in person on installation day?
Is there any way to get ahold of anyone who can tell me if I need to purchase anything else besides the radio unit and the camera? From looking around online, it sounds like I need a mounting kit or a sleeve or something like that, and I don't know if that's something I need to buy beforehand or if that's something they'll have at the installation place for purchase.
Thanks for the help in advance, if anyone can help me out with these questions!

Radio install of 299 or more has free install. Parts are not included. You need a dash kit, harness and antenna adapter. Also if you want to retain steering wheel controls the module is around 60 and install is 65 now I believe. Back up camera is an add on to the radio and install is not free. It's 150 for a back up camera install. Make sure the parts are ordered cause that dash kit is not a stocked item in the bay.
