Hey guys! Looking for some really good earbuds for the gym. Here’s some specs I think are important to me, please recc whatever you think fits best (bonus for tried and tested) -Sweat proof! (i sweat a lot on my face especially, I can’t have them getting waterlogged lol) -Slip proof, basically they can’t fall out of my ear mid rep. I know over ear ones would be the best for these but those tend to feel suffocating while I’m weight training. -Slight noise cancelling. I just wanna mute some surrounding sound, not completely block it out for when I’m running (safety first while running outside!) A good booming bass to really get the blood pumping (some good pump songs would also be welcome hehe)

What’s the best ear buds to use, that don’t fall out when running? : r/trailrunning
April 20, 2023 - From my own experience, I'd suggest looking at these Runner 40 Wireless Earbuds. They've been a game-changer for me and have stayed in place even during intensive workouts. The creators designed it with secure-fit ear hooks to enhance stability and they do deliver on that claim.

I have been on the AirPod wave for a while but I feel that they crap out on me quickly and do not stay in my ears while working out. Wanted to see if anyone had an earbud they would recommend? Preferably not with the silicon tips but I am open to any options :)

I only use the treadmill, but I'd like to start outdoor running mainly due to the AF+ outdoor run workouts looking very appealing.

That said, in the past, I've always struggled with earbuds popping out of my ears, or head phones falling off.

Anyone here have recommendations on headphones/ear buds that seem to stay on when running? I have small ears so sometimes even the ones that wrap around my ears will slip off :).

Would love to hear your thoughts.

January 5, 2024 -

Hi everybody,

I am looking for a good pair of earbuds to go to the gym. These are some options I have tried but did not make the cut:

  • Apple AirPods: have a good fit and don't usually fall from my ears, but terrible controls when using an Android phone (which is what I am currently using).

  • Samsung Galaxy Buds Live: OK fit, but I already lost two pairs as the case do not seem to hold them well.

  • Samsung Galaxy Buds 2: terrible fit, they keep falling from my ears all the time.

  • Sony WI-XB400: they keep falling from my ears when I bench press.

  • Beats Flex: same as the Sony, but with better magnets and worse sound and battery life.

  • Anker SoundCore Q10: found it awkward to use such a big thing at the gym, and it is not good for running on the treadmill.

I am tired of buying new phones and I would like a solution that would be appropriate for my use. Perhaps some model with ear hooks or ear wings (by the way, which is better?). I spend some 2 hours at the gym daily, and I do both strength training and cardio. Occasionally, I would need to answer some calls.

First, I need convenience and comfort: a good earbud that does not fall from my ears and which has good and easy controls. Second, I want a good and rich sound, but convenience and comfort are my primary concern.

I am in Brazil, so my choices are limited. For instance, the Tribit MoveBuds H1 is virtually unknown here and nowhere to be found. And most options would have to be imported. I have looked at a few options available here:

  • JBL Endurance Peak 3: available locally (JBL is hugely popular in Brazil), but a bit on the expensive side here. Not sure about the sound and build quality.

  • JBL Reflect Aero TWS: I am not sure if wing tips would be a solution.

  • JBL Endurance Race: not sure about the wing tips, and seems to have a worse sound quality, but I have not tested it.

  • Anker SoundCore Sports X10: cheaper than JBL, but it has to be imported and takes longer to arrive. I like the sound of my Q10, but I am not sure how it compares to the JBL Endurance Peak 3.

  • Beats Powerbeats Pro: looks premium and is very expensive, but the specs are not impressive compared to the others. Is it so much better? As it costs more than double than the other options, I would only buy these if it were a night-and-day difference.

  • Beats Fit Pro: how does it compare to the others? Are the wing tips any good?

  • Lenovo XT80: very cheap, but not sure if up to my needs.

Any recommendation? Thanks!

r/Earbuds on Reddit: Workout Earbuds - I’ve tried a few..
June 17, 2025 -

Hey all! I’ll try to keep this short and sweet.

Phone: iPhone 14 Pro

My Powerbeats Pro (original) finally are dead. The right bud can’t stay alive anymore for more than an hour and my workouts usually consist of lifting for an hour then a run for anywhere from 15-60 minutes.

It seems the general consensus is the new Powerbeats Pro 2 are a dud - same lack of good sound at a high price point. That doesn’t sound up my alley - as much as I’d like their “iPhone specific features” and I loved the fit of the original PBP. Because the PBP fit me so nice, I turned a blind eye to their lack of good sound, but now I want better.

Currently I’ve tried the following replacements:

Soundcore P40i - not bad for the price. They just feel cheap, which I guess they are.

Soundcore Liberty 4 Pro - tbh, P40i sound better to me, sadly with EQ adjusted on both. The squeeze controls also suck compared to my AirPods Pro.

Nothing Ear(a) - decent, but constant hiss/white noise on transparency mode - might try these again as I still have them. Again, squeeze controls feel mediocre but perhaps better than the L4P above.

Soundcore Sport X20 - did not like. Sounded fine but those hooks are trash compared to my PBP.

Soundcore Liberty Pro 2 - I’ve had these a long time. Problem is, they suck and connecting and disconnecting to the point I want to replace them. Otherwise they’re pretty comfy, touch controls kinda suck and battery is terrible.

So long story short - I need wireless buds that stay put, work with sunglasses, and overall sound great, specifically for metal genre. ANC/transparency are my last worry, but wind reduction can be important for my outdoor runs.

I will say, again back to Apple products, I wish I can find something that fits like my AirPods Pro gen1 but actually sounds good. The APP1 are just FLAT and I can’t adjust EQ as I don’t use Apple Music (YouTube Premium).

I’d like to stay below $200 USD or even below $150 USD. I’ve seen a lot of talk about OnePlus buds (3 or 3 Pro) but I’ve seen some negative reviews too. I’m open to literally any brand.

Over the last 6 years I’ve probably spent close to $2000 on earbuds. With the exception of the JBL endurance sports, every pair has either has succumbed to sweat/rain damage, fallen apart, or had battery/charging problems. I can’t remember them all, but off the top of my head, I’ve tried:

AirPods (3rd gen & Pro): sweat damage.

ESC sound Series 3: 1st pair sweat damage. Replacement bud charging problem. 2nd replacement set charging problem in one bud and sweat damage in other.

Soundcore X10 Sport: right bud started glitching and then fell apart.

Jabara Elite 75 & 85: 75s volume would randomly drop; replacement set sweat damage. 85s rain damage.

JBL Endurance Sports: work fine, but they have a touch surface instead of buttons and if a single drop of sweat or rain hits the surface, it will randomly start skipping tracks or turn the earbuds off.

I had another set of JBLs I can’t remember the name of that died of sweat damage because the charge port had a plastic cover that was slowly bent out of shape every time it was opened until it couldn’t close anymore.

I’ve tried a few random cheap pairs I can’t remember that we’re supposed to be sweat resistant but didn’t last. I know BIFL isn’t really feasible, but at this point I don’t care about price if I can get at least 2-3 of reliable service.

Hey guys,

I need some gym buds. My ears tend to be a bit between sizes for tips, so my current very expensive B&O buds going to the gym is a no go. I'd prefer to get a pair with hooks rather than fins, if possible. I'd probably buy the new Powerbeats Pro 2, but the IPX4 water resistance is just a hard pass for me in 2025, especially for a sport bud.

I've seen the Soundcore X20 be thrown around a lot from my research, but I'd honestly prefer to get something a step up in quality while I'm buying.

Any suggestions?

Every “sports” earbuds I buy ends up doing the same thing: fine during warmup, then as soon as I start actually sweating or moving faster, they start slipping or popping out. I’m mostly lifting with a bit of treadmill time, so I need something that can handle sweat, stay in place when I’m moving around, and not crush my ears after an hour.

I don’t need crazy bass or audiophile sound, just decent audio, good fit, and proper durability for the gym.

What’s worked best for you long term in the gym, and what would you avoid?

I'm looking for an all-in-one earphone solution, since I really want to be able to go on runs and train in them as well as have good sound quality and ANC. I has been using these very cheap wireless earphones, which you can't run with and want an upgrade too something which will stay in my ears without falling out. I have been looking at the beats fit pro because I have tried them on before and they haven't fallen out of my ears and I liked the fit overall because it has the small inner hook that works really well. However, they are quite old so I'm wondering if its still worth purchasing them, especially since many new earphones have come out.

Another one I've looked at is the new Google Pixel Buds Pro 2, which looks very good for quality, but I'm having doubts about whether they will stay in no matter what training I'm doing (running, sprinting, etc), and whether the wing that's attached is any good. If anyone has any other recommendations please mention them as well.

Hi!

I had the Sony WF 1000 XM4 for about two years before I lost them. I really liked then ngl, the only problem was that they'd fall out of my ears when I was moving erratically. They did okay in the gym, but when going running I'd check whether they're still in tight like every 30 seconds, wasn't too pleasant.

I also really really liked the sound quality and the ANC was nice too I guess.

So right now I'm looking for wireless earbuds in the same price range (definitely willing to spend 200-300 bucks too). And the most important things to me are sound quality and that I can go running with them.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Thank you in advance :)

I'm looking at getting noise cancelling earbuds for working out at the gym. I have an iPhone 12 and I really don't want AirPods. I want to get wireless earbuds for under $150 USD. I'm currently looking at the Soundcore A40. My requirements for the earbuds are:

  1. Comfortable fit and stable fit

  2. Excellent audio quality

  3. Good total battery life (buds + case)

  4. Good build quality

  5. Really good noise cancelation, good transparency mode, and good wind reduction

  6. At least IPX4 rating

  7. Have good control scheme

  8. Have an IOS app

Do you think that the Soundcore A40 is perfect for what I'm looking or do you have any recommendations?

Hi, I've been using my Samsung Galaxy Buds FE for regular gym workouts and general use at home and in school for the past 2 years. I'm looking to replace it, and my budget is around ~200 USD.

Ideally, my first priority is sound quality, but a close second priority is a secure fit.

What I'm looking for in sound quality:

I'm not looking for anything too specific, but I really want a good ANC. I saw that Bose QC earbuds can do that but heard that they have really bad connection issues, so I'm ruling that out already. I got to try them out in person and the sound seemed like what I was looking for, and the fit seemed good enough for general gym and home/school use.

What I'm looking for in a secure fit:

I really enjoy the rubber wing tips that the Galaxy Buds FE provides, so I'm looking for that level of security. I sweat a lot in general and live in a hot climate country, so I looked into the Jabra Elite 8 Active. They only had a dummy model though when I tried them on in person, so I couldn't test the sound. The fit felt very good though, but I couldn't be sold on it as reviews said the sound and ANC are good --- but not great.

As a small third priority, I preferably want the earbuds design and shape. I don't really like the design of those that wrap around the ears.

Some other reviews:

  • I also heard some reviews from a friend who sweats a lot like me and owns a Sony WF-1000XM5, and she said that the sound is great but it falls off easily when exercising. That rules it out for me as well.

  • I bought the Soundcore Liberty 4 NC a month or two ago but sold it right away because it never stayed on my ears. It had the worst fit for me even while just sitting down and eating. The sound was okay, but I could hardly create a good seal because of how easily it falls off.

  • My other friend recommends the Apple Airpods Pro 2. I'm not sure how the compatibility would work with my Samsung phone. I like to mess around with the EQ, so if there's no available app equivalent on android, it sucks but it's not that big of a deal. I could probably live with it if it's really that good.

  • I also saw some reviews on Beats Fit Pro True Wireless, but I'm having a hard time telling if that fits what I want. Seems good but could use some more reviews and comparisons on this if you would recommend it.

I'm really hoping to find some earbuds that could incorporate a bit of both of my priorities within my budget, but I'm open to adjusting my budget if I can be sold on a really good pair of earbuds, which also hopefully just has no other issues.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations guys!
