Grain Mills Examined and Compared
In the interest of full disclosure, we have owned the classic KitchenAid grain mill and the Whispermill for quite some time, which means we forget how long we've had them - at least 10 years in any case. The Mockmill 100 was loaned to us by Mockmill, and the Komo Fidibus Classic was loaned ...

Manual Grain Mill/Grinder Recommendations?
The Country Living mills are super pricy but nice. The difference between these and lower end mills is obvious when you use them. They’re easier to turn and they can range from cracked grain to cake flour fine. I’ve heard good things about the Wondermill Jr, and they can be easily rigged to a bicycle. I haven’t used one, but they’re about half way between the lower end mills and the Country Living mills on the price scale and widely liked. I’ve got a Roots and Branches deluxe mill and the optional motor. I’m happy with it for what I paid. The motor is definitely a nice add on for regular use. If necessary I’m pretty confident I could rig it to a bicycle. It will grind flour fine enough for bread but I wouldn’t want to bake a fine cake with it. Eventually I’ll probably invest in a Country Living mill, but this one has served me well for my use and it’ll be a fine backup. More on reddit.com

Home Grain Mill Recommendations
My wife has been baking bread almost daily for the past five years or so and wants a home grain mill for Christmas. It's pricey ($800 USD), but the Mockmill 200 Pro has a 12-year residential warranty: https://breadtopia.com/store/mockmill-professional-200-grain-mill/ More info: https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeMilledFlour/comments/1839rn3/comment/kaowlmd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 I've had mine for 3 years. I mostly do wheat flour, cornmeal, and rice flour with it. The mega-long warranty & improved internal hardware components will cover me for nearly the next decade of baking. My typical process is: Mill the flour (then either use it whole, sifted, or as a percentage with AP flour) Use the sourdough starter Use the overnight no-knead procedure Fresh bread every day for less than 10 minute's worth of effort to mill the flour, feed the sourdough starter, and create & bake the dough! Grain Mill Recommendations
I was in the same boat a few years ago when trying to get my efficiency consistent. I got the geared 3 roller from monster brewing and highly recommend. My friend had a non geared 2 or 3 roller from some other brand and it always got stuck or finicky so I wanted something that would reliably crush. The monster is a little bit more money but worth it. They give you a sizer (or whatever it is) and once I used that to get a 0.030 gap in the roller, I've had great efficiency. So definitely use something accurate to set up whatever you get. November 25, 2023 -

My wife has been baking bread almost daily for the past five years or so and wants a home grain mill for Christmas.

Probably a long shot, but does anyone on here have any thoughts or recommendations on what is the best out of the following home grain mills:

  • Mockmill

  • Nutrimill

  • Wondermill

  • Kokomo

I’m totally lost here! She mostly does sourdough stuff but sometimes ventures out to other, more yeasty stuff.

August 8, 2025 - Precisely fitted corundum-ceramic burrs grind to any texture you choose, all by simply rotating the grain mill's hopper to align with your choice on the front texture setting scale. Their great advantage: A suspension between the grinding stones prevents the loud grinding noise of the stones in the “fine” position as soon as the grinding process is finished. In doing so, they protect the stones and your nerves. ... “I previously was using my mom's old stone grinder from the 70s, which grinds well, but it's slow, super loud and very dusty.
