If you're looking for cheaper, I hate to say it but the big box stores (they often have a discount rack with neglected yet easily revivable plants). They'll be stocked to the gills in the coming weeks. Downtown Home and Garden is great (albeit quite overpriced, especially for pots). There are also several nurseries (Lodi Farms, Turners, Abbott's, Lucas, etc.). There's usually a good plant selection outside of Arbor Farms on Stadium once it warms up a bit, but these are more outdoor type plants). What are you looking for? I buy a lot of my house plants from Mother Earth Gardens. Not sure how they stack up against Home Depot price wise, but the plants are healthy and the staff is knowledgeable. I like Mother as well, but they might be on the pricier side. They also focus on cactus and tropicals. More on reddit.com

Hi! Looking for a high quality plant store in the chicago area. something that’s locally owned by lifelong plant lovers, has a large outdoor selection of both plants and pots, and has employees that are knowledgeable about all plants and can give advice / tips! Basically, the total opposite of The Sill on Roscoe.

I've gotten into plants over the past year or so and I just moved here. I only just noticed the flower shop next to Blake the other day, and I know that there's that large garden and home store/beer garden thing a block down from Pretzel Bell.
I'm really new at this so I'm looking for some easy low light plants, but I also have a few succulents. Also if there's anywhere local where I can get cheaper supplies, specifically pots (or nicer pots that are worth the price)

Snake plants, jade plants, spider plants, dracenea, pothos. They are all generally available at places like home depot or Lowe's. They don't need bright light or too much water. Pothos will droop and look sad if it needs water. Snake plants do best if left mostly alone. Jade can get fussy if you overwater them, especially in the winter, but aren't bad. All of the above (minus maybe dracenea) propagate real well. Aloe is also pretty easy.

Qideas on Argyle in Uptown! Bill and his daughter Ellen are so nice and helpful and they have a couple cute little shop dogs. As someone with maybe too many houseplants, they’re my favorite neighborhood spot. Others are: Chica Plant Shop Terrace Vase and Vessel +1 for Gethsemane and Green Spaces, too!
