I work for a major liquor distributor in sales, and Costco is one of the accounts in my universe. The account is great for getting sales on products we have big goals on because Costco has enormous buying power and the retail floor space. So, major brands and private label and closeout deals and sometimes super rare and hyper expensive stuff all goes to Costco because they can buy it, floor it, and move it. Also, Costco works at a much lower profit margin than any other account or channel so that's why you see some killer deals. All that being said, a sales company that represents a niche product like a desirable rum would have no reason to sell to Costco in bulk when they could sell their entire stock of inventory in the independent channels for higher profit elsewhere unless they needed to turn the inventory quickly. Nevermind actually being able to get an appointment with the buyer! So, a brand like Wray and Nephew or Rum Fire or Chartreuse that barely produces enough to satisfy the normal sales channels would likely never show up in Costco. Doesn't mean that you won't find something good at Costco, it only means you're less likely to find something highly sought after.

They had Appleton 12 for a brief moment. Otherwise they've released 3 Kirkland rums. The barrel aged Panama 12 year and 15 year are pretty darn good. Edit: I had to go dig through the Liquor Locker. They also sold an XO Guatemala. My personal preference is for the 12 year Panama.

Kirkland Barrel Aged Panama 15-Year | Rum Ratings
As it is though, this is a phenomenal bottle of rum that for $21.00 serves as a perfect sipper and mixer ... I went to update my score on this one and the site automatically had the review from another bottle inserted and got rid of my original review. Doesn’t matter because you can not get this one anymore but the good news is they released a 20 year and it’s just as good if not better so try to find it before it’s all gone. ... Who would've thought Costco for a 15 yr aged rum that tastes this good.

Anyone tried this yet? My first time seeing it in Souther California. I’ve had some good (if sweet) rums from Guatemala so was curious if this would be worth picking up.

I was given a blind sample and asked to identify it last weekend. It doesn't have a strong nose. Mild oaky sweetness. No spice, no ethanol vapors. Palate: immediately the takeaway is this is sweetened and low proof. Brown sugar sweetness and oak. Nothing complex going on. It does not evolve beyond there. The alcohol does not feel fully integrated with the wood, and the sweetness tries to be masking this fact. My hunch is that it's not particularly old spirit in the barrel as a result. 5 years? I would say it meets the criteria for something that drinks "smooth". My mind immediately goes to central America in origin, molasses 100%. Conclusion: boring, but if it's cheap and you're dipping your toes into a rum that could be sipped you could do worse. Personally wouldn't spend more than $25-30 for the bottle. When I was shown the bottle I wasnt too surprised. It's zacapa like.

It is El Pasador de Oro Gran Reserva. Literally the same bottle and top (pretty distinctive). I think I got it for $27.97 or something. It's not a bad bottle. A lot of oak notes though, which is a plus or minus if that is your thing.

This is just flat-out good rum for drinking straight. Smooth, clean and tasty, with a nice afterburn. This stuff is FIVE-TIMES distilled, too. That means free of fusel oils and hangovers. All this at 46% ABV. More ABV, less hangover and half the price of stuff that's half as good. ... This is Costco production of a spiced rum and seems to be an excuse for adding in loads of sugar and additives ...

Kirkland Spiced Rum Replacement??
Sailor Jerry is my go to for rum and cokes. My favorite rum is a Brugal reserve that i have been only able to find in the Dominican Republic where its made ( not at the duty free in the airport either). The ones imported to the US do not taste the same and are not near as good.

We Finally Know Who Makes Costco's Kirkland Spiced Rum
March 2, 2024 - However, several years ago, Costco reworked the spiced liquor, and now it's made by Sazerac Co., as stated on the side of the bottle. This large company operates over 450 brands, including ownership of familiar distilleries like Buffalo Trace. Rum isn't a typical part of their portfolio; the company has its oldest roots in cognac.

Is Costco done with the Kirkland spiced rum?
September 11, 2023 - I've bought pretty much every bottle of well aged Kirkland labeled rum that had appeared in my local Costcos. Same for the Kirkland labeled Scotch. Excellent values all around! I agrre, think the 15 year Panama rum is better than the Guatemala XO. I'm in the USVI now due a few days, so it's all Cruzan, all day everyday.

November 15, 2019 - For products like Johnnie Walker Blue or Macallan, it’s virtually impossible to beat Costco on price.” · The same logistics can be applied to Kirkland’s blended Canadian whiskey ($18.99), which makes all three of these bottles solid options for the price, although for $30 a bottle for the bourbon, I might stick to something I know both blends well and is palatable on its own, like Buffalo Trace...
