Hi, I've been trying to figure out a good TV for my parents. We were at Sam's Club last weekend and a Samsung CU7000 85" and LG UR8000 86" were both on clearance for ~$1000 which seems really cheap for the size. They're usually very slow to upgrade TVs and they've had our current Samsung F6300 65" from back when that was a fancy big size lol. And we had some old Samsung 40" way before that. So they have some brand loyalty to Samsung since that's like 15 years of good TVs that lasted forever (a family member is still using the 40"). But from reading around, it seems both Samsung and LG's budget models aren't nearly as good as they should be nowadays. So I'm not sure these clearance deals are so great after all.

99% of their usage is streaming movies (we recently got fiber so we have fast internet for once, but our streaming quality is still well under 1080p? dunno the deal with that) and even that isn't an everyday thing so I know they would still be fine with the current TV for a while. Just the $1000 85" Samsung really caught our attention value-wise. I'm usually the guy who knows all the tech stuff but I never watch TV so all of these modern specs seem really confusing to me, all I know is buy an OLED but those are out of their price range at this size for now. At the end of the day I would hope that TVs have advanced enough over nearly a decade that even a shitty 4k TV today will blow our old ass 1080p Samsung out of the water.

So basically, are the usual grievances this sub has with these models (CU7000/8000, UR8000, etc) warranted? Or are they a bit overblown given the budget? And if anyone has owned an F6300 in the past, a firsthand comparison to newer models would be much appreciated too. Thanks!

I see a lot of people commenting how much they think their OLED TV (in the C series) is too dim and I’m here thinking that my LG C2 not only looks bright but looks better to me than going to the theater where the screens just can’t pull off those sexy inky blacks. Seriously, my LG C2 has ruined movie theaters for me. But also a lot of people talk in the theaters, so that also ruins the movie theater experience for me.

Costco and Sam’s Club always have TVs on display that are among the first things you see when you walk in.

After splurging and getting an LG OLED, every time I walk in to Costco or Sam’s Club, most of the sets now look like garbage. Overly bright. Overly saturated. All of them. Except for the OLEDs of course. But with the edge-lit LED TVs, you can physically see blue light spreading across the whole screen. It looks awful.

Life’s short. If you haven’t already, get yourself an OLED TV and enjoy it.

My local Sam's had the 65" C4 for $800, just the same as another poster here. Picked one up for the girlfriend in her bedroom. Would've taken that 77" deal if she had room for it. I already have a 77" C3, and a 65" C2, so I didn't have a need. Finally got her an OLED though, and she's very happy!

My husband and I are in our 60's and disabled. We need a new 55 inch tv. If we get a Vizio from Sam's club it comes with a 3 year warranty. I am visually impaired and need good contrast. Any suggestions?

I was looking into buying a new OLED TV, was thinking about getting a C4 or a Samsung S90D, which are currently selling for 1200 USD, when I came across a "speed deal" on Amazon for 65 A95k from 2022. The price was 1500 usd.

It seems like it's a great deal, but I am unsure since I have never put to much attention to that model, which is always super expensive.

I mostly watch streaming, Hulu, Netflix, Amazon prime. No gaming. But I am super sensitive to unnatural image. And to not so good upscaling. I had the Philip's 9632, at the time which was a legendary model at the time.

IT IS SOLD OUT FROM COSTCO (the 75"). I've talked to a few Costco people, and they have no idea when they will get another shipment. They could not tell me anything else. Not even give any sort of estimates.

So I will most likely have to consider another retailer.

This is an LED TV, not OLED, so there's no burn in issue. To my knowledge, the default Best Buy warranty is only a single year? Or is there no default warranty and you only get a warranty for buying GeekSquad protection? I don't want to pay for extended warranties since this isn't an OLED. Their website doesn't seem very clear.

But Sam's Club has a 3 year "manufacturer" warranty. So I think I'm misunderstanding Best Buy's warranty. If this is the manufacturer warranty, wouldn't it also be 3 years from Best Buy?

I know Costco has a 2 year default warranty, and that extends another 2 years with Square Trade when you buy from Costco.

So which store offers the better warranty between Best Buy and Sam's Club, assuming I do not want to pay any extra for warranties?

I’ve recently been looking for a new tv and the OLEDs have my attention. Now I always have bought my TVs at BestBuy due to their credit card financing with 0%. Now Sam’s has a five year warranty for these OLED TVs. Now what is it that is covered in their warranty? Is burn in covered? Or any other major problems will be covered too?

Those are the only stores I have in my area and I’m curious which TVs they have preferably under 1k. Thanks!

Basically what the title says. My friend has a budget of $1000 or less on his new tv. Should he get one of the cheaper OLEDs or get a higher end QLED/Mini-LED?

EDIT: Thanks for everyone's input. It was interesting to see so many different opinions. I decided to get the Samsung S95D as I think it seems to strike the best balance of reflection handling for a bright room, and OLED picture quality for nighttime gaming and movies. I was able to get them to throw in 2 years of Samsung Care+ with the $1880 price. I suppose if I hate it, I have 15 days to return.

Through various sales and Employee Discount programs, I'm evaluating the following TVs. Because of the heavy discounts with Samsung and LG, the TCL and Hisense options don't feel quite as "cheap" but I don't know if they're still the right choice even setting price aside.

This will be a in large open concept living room with a 10 foot glass wall of south facing windows about 4 feet to the left of the TV and 3 skylights in the ceiling above. The TV is opposite the kitchen so some lighting will be on over there most of the time.

We will do most of our TV watching / gaming in evenings with some ambient lights on. Daytime would be mostly occasional sports watching.

We had a 65-inch TCL that had its backlight blown only 2 years into having it despite the TV not being used a ton. (All cables were checked, factory reset, etc)

My question is, what TV do y'all recommend of a similar size or slightly smaller at a half-decent pricepoint that may last longer? I know very little. We've gone through three TVs in six years. Thanks in advance!

This is in northwest Indiana. They also had about 4 of the 65inch for about 890$.
