Favorite/best affordable vacuum cleaner? Preferably something that handles cat hair.
Vacuum recommendation on a budget
I own all of the vacuum cleaners that you are considering picking up, so I think it would be most helpful to give my thoughts on the strong points and weak points of each.
Kenmore 200 Series: As far as versatility goes, this is the best one of the bunch. I say that because it has a power nozzle, and it is excellent at cleaning carpet. It also has a hose for attachments, including powered ones like this miniature motorized nozzle and others like a real upholstery tool and better hard floor tool. If you do move houses and find one with mostly carpet, the 200 Series would transition into that environment just fine, because it is good at everything. The main downside for me is that the hose is relatively short. It is not awful, though. Some 200 Series listings come with different attachments including the option of a two-piece or extending wand, so pay attention to things like that. Other than that, change the bag when it gets full, rinse the pre-motor filter every other bag change or so, and replace the exhaust filter every six months to a year and you should be all good to go. Parts are readily available as seen here.
Hoover ONEPWR HEPA+: The Hoover is excellent at cleaning carpet and decent at hard floors. The battery system is reliable, the bags are huge, the build quality is great, parts are easy to find, it is lightweight, and so forth. The biggest downside is that it does not have attachments, so it surely would not be great at cleaning your upholstery. It also has no way to stop the brush roll on hard floors, though it does have a lower speed for it. If your floors are super delicate, this may be an issue, but not really in a normal house like mine. It is worth mentioning, though. The only regular maintenance it needs is to change the bag, but also cutting any hair that may collect on the roller pertains. You could also look at corded Oreck upright, which are going to be about the same thing since Oreck and Hoover are now owned by the same company, sharing designs.
Bissell Zing Bagged: This model is a good little basic canister. It can run turbo tools like the Wessel-Werk TK280 and PT160, although I personally do not think that this would be the ideal vacuum cleaner for you given how you talk about your situation. The other two would be way better on carpet. You could get this alongside a Hoover or Oreck, but I think you would benefit from having a vacuum cleaner more geared for the carpet.
As far as warranty goes for them, to give a more thorough description, Bissell is the only one that I have seen in practice have a reliable warranty dynamic. That is one thing I will give Bissell. For Transformco/Sears to honor their warranty for the Kenmore vacuum cleaner, you have to buy it from a "Transformco authorized retailer" like Sears or Kenmore's online stores. It is a part of the strange agreement Sears has with the manufacturer of the vacuum cleaner, of which I am not a massive fan. For Hoover, I have consistently seen enthusiasts/reviewers and even people coming on here complaining about how Hoover/TTI tries their best to wiggle out of warranty work. Definitely do not buy the Hoover or Kenmore based on their warranties.

Hey all
I live in a small apartment with 2 cats and I am trying to keep it clean, but my vacuum is terrible. This is my first apartment and when I moved in I bought the cheapest vacuum possible, I think it was like $25, and I have since regretted that as it just doesn’t get things clean. Like I’ll vacuum and it won’t pick up a lot of cat hair, and it also misses a ton a little things, to the point where my feet are constantly covered in little pieces of dirt/whatever.
I am looking for something, preferably under or around 100ish that will actually keep my carpets clean and preferably keep up with the cat hair.
Any suggestions?
