If they said a universal remote, I'm assuming they are talking about third party ones you get from any electrical store. Unfortunately that probably means they no longer have official Bose ones as well. In which case, yes pretty much any universal one should be fine. Most will be Infra-Red, so they don't need to be paired, but they will need to be programmed. It will probably have 20-50 codes for Bose products, and you would need to go through each to find which one works best, but you still may not have full control over the system (depending on what buttons it actually has and most are designed for TVs/DVDs/Home theatre). Realistically these remotes are becoming less useful and less available, as TVs switch to BT remotes. So an electrical store may only have one or two styles anyway. More on reddit.com

So I got my dad's old Bose Wave Music System, I'm pretty sure it's the first model since it doesn't have a "II" or "III" on the tag with the serial number. Basically we lost the remote over the summer, and it appears that no one sells new ones anymore. More on reddit.com

I lost my remote for the Bose Wave System I. If I wanted to get one on ebay, what do I look for? I chatted with a customer service agent and they said to get a universal remote. Do I need to buy remotes that explicitly have the word "universal" in the listing?

Tip on using the learning function with the Bose remote: Holding down the volume Up or Down button is a different command than a single press of Up or Down. You need to program both into the universal remote. The URC-WR7 also has macro capability. I set it up so when I turn the TV on or off, the Bose Wave Radio turns on or off, too.

I've got one of those Bose Wave radio/CD units. It's around 20 years old (I can't remember exactly).
Recently, the unit has stopped responding to the remote control (and there is no way to control it without the remote).
The clock on the front panel works fine, but if I try to turn the unit on, the display blanks momentarily, then shows PLEASE WAIT, which blinks a few times, and then the clock display returns.
Oddly, the alarm clock controls work just fine -- I can set the time, and change the radio station that plays at the alarm time. But that's it.
It's not the remote. I tried the remote on another similar (but much newer) unit in another room, and it works just fine. And I tried the remote from that working unit on the non-functioning unit, and I got the same result with both remotes.
Any ideas? The model number is AWRCC2, if that helps.

Suggestions here did not work for me. There are videos on YouTube that seem to show this is related to a capacitor problem* and not simply a need to reset something digitally.
