Budget: 3k but irrelevant - deciding between 2 bodies Country: EU Condition: New only Type of Camera: mirrorless Intended use: hybrid shooting If photography; what style: travel so mix of landscape, street, portrait If video what style: travel What features do you absolutely need: generally leaning towards more video needs than photography at the moment What features would be nice to have: Portability: Irrelevant Cameras you're considering: Sony Alpha7V and Canon R6 III Cameras you already have: Old DSLR and action cameras, I do use slow motion so 60fps is absolutely needed and 120fps is used sometimes
Hello everyone, I'm traveling a lot and like to get more into travel video making and photography. I mostly just use a GoPro now but there are many limitations obviously. I'd choose a more video camera but photography is something I've enjoyed in the past too so these 2 hybrids came out as the best options. I am also planning (eventually) to get into underwater video making when scuba so low light is quite important but not absolute priority.
I'm considering Sony A7V and Canon R6 III, I do not have any usable lenses so system change is not a consideration. I've watched all comparison videos but it's difficult to tell sponsored videos from real reviews. What I consider Sony pros:
-
stacked sensor - no blackouts and better EVF
-
less overheating
-
lens availability
Sony cons for me:
-
only 4k - not much crop in post
-
120fps crop
-
no open gate (not truly sure how useful it might be)
What I consider Canon pros:
-
open gate - I do shoot for both YT and IG but it's probably not making that big a difference
-
high res - I really enjoy this on my GoPro to have ability to crop and still have 4k video
Canon cons for me:
-
less good EVF and blackouts when shooting
-
unstacked sensor but possibly that's not going to be very different from A7V
-
overheating maybe
-
IBIS seems wobbly in some reviews
-
only Canon lenses (not very sure how much of an impact this might have in the future for me)
The high res on Canon and Sony's crop on 120fps are leaning me towards Canon but the lens availability and choosing a system makes me want to choose Sony.
Can anyone please give me their point of view based on my needs? I don't know how much e.g. lens availability is more important compared to high res video availability.
Thank you
