A Capital One debit card is a payment card that deducts money directly from a checking account to pay for purchases, and it can also be used to withdraw cash at ATMs. When opening a first 360 Checking account online, the contactless debit card arrives in the mail within 5–7 business days in a discreet envelope. The same debit card is used across all 360 Checking accounts a customer holds, but separate cards are issued for different account types, such as 360 Checking and Total Control Checking.
The card must be activated before use, which can be done online or through the Capital One Mobile app by signing in, selecting the linked account, and following the activation steps, which may include setting a four-digit PIN. Activation is required to access funds at Capital One ATMs, which include over 70,000 fee-free locations nationwide, many at retailers like Target®, CVS Pharmacy®, and Walgreens®.
Capital One has transitioned its debit cards from Mastercard to the Discover Network following its acquisition of Discover Financial Services in May 2025. As a result, customers are receiving new cards with updated card numbers, CVV codes, and expiry dates, though their account number and PIN remain unchanged. The new cards are being shipped on a rolling basis, and users must activate them to use them. The change is mostly invisible to customers, except in rare cases where a merchant does not support the Discover Network.
The debit card can be added to digital wallets such as Apple Pay®, Google Pay™, Samsung Pay®, and PayPal® for contactless payments. It is also compatible with online transactions and recurring subscriptions. For security, contactless transactions use a unique one-time code, making them more secure than magnetic stripe transactions. Customers can also lock or unlock their card using the Capital One Mobile app if it is lost or stolen.
Customers with multiple 360 Checking accounts can switch the account their debit card is linked to online. Additionally, the card can be used for mobile check deposits, direct deposit, and Zelle® transfers, depending on the account type. The MONEY Teen Checking account, available for children as young as 8, includes a debit card for the teen, which can be used for purchases and ATM withdrawals, while parents have access to monitor activity and set controls.
