I ran a flow action on Claude 4 Sonnet (Thinking). It cost 🥁
A bit over 17 flow action credits. Oof!
Quantity of output was similar to Claude 3.7 Sonnet (Thinking) - which is 1.25 credits per flow action. Quality was better, not remarkably better but noticable if you paid close attention.
Worth it? No. Two calls to Claude 3.7 Sonnet (Thinking) would have resulted in the same output if not more. That's only 2.5 credits. And it would have taken the same amount of time, Claude 4 Sonnet (Thinking) is really slow right now.

First time I tried it it ate something like 70 credits in 2/3 minutes. It gave no useful output I had to stop it midway

I do use it sometimes, but only after 3.7 and 2.5 pro have failed to fix a bug or refactor something complex, multiple times. For me, 4 has been able to solve stuff that all other models have not. For reference: I use Windsurf for around 6hrs/day.

There are so many options and I dont know which to choose. There is Cursor, Poe, Perplexity Pro, Anthropic API, Claude Webchat etc etc.
The Webchat is great but the usage limits are too annoying. I would like to more often use a bigger context size because then Sonnet seems to compare much better.
Right now I am thinking about using Poe with the Sonnet 3.5 200k Bot. 1k credits for one message and you'll get 1million credits per month for 20$. so I guess that would be quite cheap compared to the API.
Cursor also looks interesting though with their unlimited slow usage, but not sure if you also can get Sonnet 3.5 slow usage or not.
What do you guys use for programming?

As a dev here's the calculus: Pay for Claude Pro, $20. Pay for Claude Sonnet 3.5 API through their console, and pay-as-you-go. I recommend a tool like: https://get.big-agi.com/ - you just paste your Claude API key and go. Now, use the API key for 5 days. Check your usage. Multiply that by 4. What is cheaper: $20 pro, or API usage for the month? That's the math you have to do really. Personally I paid for the $20 pro because I like the Artifact and claude UI. It's worth it to me.

There is also Cody, but I've gotten the best results from the webchat. I think the 200k context is one of the things which makes sonnet 3.5 so great, but most extensions such as cody only use 8-10k. How does the credit system on poe work, how many messages do you get for 20 usd?

Hey everyone! Claude Sonnet 4.5 just went live in Cline.
Same pricing as Sonnet 4 ($3/$15), 200k or 1M context window, but the behavior is noticeably different. The model is way more terse -- it skips the narration and just executes. Where Sonnet 4 would explain every step, 4.5 chains operations together and only speaks up when it needs clarification.
The big improvement is how it handles long tasks. It naturally maintains state files (progress.txt, implementation notes, test manifests) and picks up exactly where it left off across sessions.
This pairs well with Cline's Auto Compact and Focus Chain features. When context gets compressed, the model's state files provide additional continuity.

I saw support was added to Bedrock and then the commit was reverted, then a fix was made that excluded Bedrock. Is there a blocker to support 4.5 in Bedrock?

Very good post. I clearly noticed how it wastes less tokens. Same token price, less cost overall. Very good model. Hope they don't degrade it and rug pull.
