This is my first printer that uses ink tanks, and it’s so satisfying watching them fill up from the ink bottles. This seems like such a more cost effective and environmentally friendly way to print too.
We just returned out Epson ET-2850 due to it churning out unusable prints. I researched and it looks like Brother is the go to recommended brand around here. I would like to try out a laser printer but the only one that does color is the MFC-L8895CDW at $650 which is quite steep for a household that doesn't print much but needs a printer that will just work for years to come. Were sick of constant issues so if going this route gives us a reliable printer we will spring for it.
Next question about the above, is the MFC-L8895CDW DRM protected? The Brother's brand toner is quite expensive compared to aftermarket cartridges that it says it takes (TN-436)
This printer will be $80 off in a few days and I was debating on getting a new printer because my current one costs way too much in ink, and since I don’t use it often the ink dispensers dry out.
I would get a laser printer, but I need color. I also only need to print once a month. So, getting a color laser printer is quite spendy for my needs. Laser printers also tend to take up a lot of space.
What I need to know:
If I don’t use this often will it have an issue with drying out?
Is this printer worth getting if I only print stuff once a month? I don’t have an option to go somewhere to get things printer because I need to print things on the fly, especially if there are changes in the info I’m printing
Does the WiFi/AirPrint work well? I use a Mac and iPhone, so AirPrint working well is a must.
How big is this thing?
Thanks for any feedback on this printer!
I'm looking for a new printer and prefer to buy from Costco. I do NOT care about scanning or fax, all I need is low maintenance and color printing (doesn't need to be high photo quality). It will be used in a home setting. I often go 2 months without printing, but might have to print 50 pages then. Budget is $300 unless you convince me otherwise. I thought about the Epson EcoTank, but apparently they're not a good choice if you don't print often. Thanks!
Edit: I followed the advice given, and just put a Costco order in for the Brother HLL3290CDWB. Thanks everyone!!!!
If you're doing intermittent printing with lots of delay in between I'd STRONGLY encourage you to go the laser route. Toner doesn't dry up when it's not used.
Go for the laser printers. Ink jet printers will be a waste of money if you aren’t printing regularly. Personally, I’m a fan of the Brother brand. You should be able to find plenty in your price range. Brother Printer
Has anyone used these printers? The only difference seems to be the Fax feature, but I'm not completely sure — are there any other differences? Which one would you recommend? I'm also open to suggestions for other brands or models. Thanks
