I’ve found novafoam to be incredibly firm. Also, opinions on mattresses will be very subjective and largely dependent on your sleeping position etc. For a good all around (medium to medium/soft) we bought the Simply Modern hybrid. So far guests have liked sleeping on it More on reddit.com

Just a (hopefully) helpful heads up: I'm WAY older than a teen, but I found the memory foam in this bed, in spite of all the great reviews, cooked me like a lobster after a few hours. YMMV, but it sounds like it might be a real hassle for you twice if you think about returning it.
