It is true that it's not documented, but historical posts have shown it to be a fault on one of the power rails on the system board - the only real solution is to replace the board.

Power off computer, remove battery, connect AC adapter,and then power on system again. Please observe any blinking lights. If the blinking lights are still there, power off the system again, remove AC adapter. Press and hold down the power button for 20 seconds to drain any excess static power. Replace battery, connect adapter, and then power on system. Hopefully, there aren't any flashing lights.

It’s possible that the battery has reached the end of its lifespan. Battery Report Check: Create a battery report to check the status of your current battery. Open a Command Prompt window (search for 'cmd' in the Start menu). Type the following command and press Enter: powercfg /batteryreport This will generate a battery report. Locate the report file (usually saved in your user folder) and open it. Compare the Design Capacity value with the Full Charge Capacity value. @idyung2unechi for your Dell Latitude 5500 the 3,5 blink codes is indicative of a Power Rail Failure. That means potentially something on your motherboard has failed. To help you further, we really would need to see your motherboard (both sides) and we would need to know what model your motherboard is. · It is possible that this is caused by a bad AC adapter etc. Try this first. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from your computer. Disconnect all external devices from the computer. Remove the battery Now hold the power button depressed for about 30sec-1min. Reapply the AC power adapter and see if your computer does show any sign of life. · Then do this First you want to check your power supply. Make sure it has the proper voltages. Check to make sure that connectors are not bend etc. Check the DC-in jack of your laptop. Make sure there is no corrosion, debris etc. that prevents it from working · To work on your laptop, use this · Dell Latitude 5500 manual. Check page 131 about using the Build -in-self-test (BIST). I have a dell g5 5587, i changed the fans and keyboard by myself (not the first time i dissemble it), the laptop is 6 years old, when i was changing things i kept the cmos battery connected and disconnected everything else, after finishing things when i was trying to boot up the laptop to check everything it didnt bootup at all, at first i thought it might be a power up button problem but after checks it seemed like its not, I removed cmos battery and plugged in the laptop with charger it immediately turned on (only keyboard and led) and then led flashed me 3 orange and 1 white lights, i reseated the cmos battery and tried again, same problem, sometimes with cmos battery hooked the laptop doesnt make anything other than flashing once i plug it in with one white light but then i wont be able to boot it at all and power button doesnt turn it on, I tried removing cmos and holding the power button for 30 seconds and plug it again but it didnt work, I encountered the same problem before but I solved it with the 30 seconds thing, is there any thing i can do and is it a big problem or a small one (im hoping i just need to replace cmos battery) could it be a power button failure too ?

Update, turns out that the power button connector wasn’t registering, I cleaned both copper ends of the connector and it worked fine.

Hi @henson79010 · Try resetting the BIOS by performing a full power refresh. · Disconnect the main battery from the motherboard, remove the coin cell RTC battery from the motherboard, press and hold the laptop's power button for a full 30 seconds and then release it. · Reinsert the coin cell battery (+ve side up), reconnect the main battery to the motherboard, reassemble the laptop, connect the charger and then check if it starts OK. · Update (12/29/23) · If the motherboard is a Compal LA-J108P/J109P here's the · schematic. · The Power button is on p.77 top left of page.
