RTD has three system for tracking vehicles. One for the heavy rail lines, one for the light rail lines and one for the busses. There is no real time tracking on the light rail which is what enables the ghost trains. Real time tracking is difficult to add in, because the project would involved all the switches and signals, and just spiral into something massive. Heavy rail is more modern, they should have a Google feed. The busses are easy. These dispatching systems are all built around Google Maps. The Google data here is probably really close to the master location data files RTD uses internally. Google compatibility is at the core of most bus technology tools. The important thing to know is light rail lines have to be added manually which leads to a lot of mistakes. Answer from benskieast on reddit.com

r/transit on Reddit: I mapped out all of RTD Denver on Google Earth

I did this over the span of probably a year. It took so long in fact, that when I went back to revise them before uploading, some routes had pretty big changes. 1, 30, 31 for example.

Here's the KMZ if you want it. You can also import it to Google Earth Web.

I would like to clarify, I already mapped it out. Yes, I could download it from RTD but I already mapped it out so that official data is pretty much useless to me

There’s occasionally brief lapses of time in the past where RTD’s real-time reporting to Google went down but it feels like Google Maps hasn’t had the information for a long time.

Hi Denver! I'm an amateur transit map designer who's been meaning to try their hand at making a bus system map. When I realised that RTD doesn't have a proper system map, it occurred to me that Denver might be a good canvas to start with. Very curious to hear your thoughts :)

r/Denver on Reddit: Update to my RTD system map
July 4, 2023 -

Hi again, Denver! A couple months ago I posted my unofficial RTD system map, which I made out of frustration with the agency's lack of an official map. You all seemed to like it, so in hopes to make the map a more comprehensive view of Denver's transit system, I've added FlexRide service zones.

Boulder and regional bus maps remain on the table, though I've not set a timeline. Stay tuned?
