That's 60% of the value!! All information I found on Google amounts to 7$ MAX! There is no way I can arrive at this outrageous number.
How can this be? Am I being ripped or did something go wrong?
(PS: I am "allowed" to pay this online but clearly I do not see any details or breakdowns)
Anyone know how to complete customs clearance?
You have to go to a customs office with ID if it has cleared and DHL can’t deliver it for some reason such as custom charges owing. Sometimes it is just in a queue waiting to be cleared and they just haven’t got to it yet. Tracking a package at DHL can tell you this much but don’t expect DHL to help. They are terrible, miserly fucks.

I need to pay customs on my package (personal goods, shipped by DHL). If I self clear, can I pay CBSA online or must it be in person?
DHL Customs Fees
This is an age old problem. Couriers (UPS, FedEx, DHL) can all charge an exorbitant brokerage fee for processing your shipment through Canada Customs. To be clear, you will always have to pay taxes/duties but the exorbitant brokerage fees are what the couriers charge you for “processing” this for you and for “fronting the taxes and duties” on your behalf. You often have no way of knowing how much exactly you will have to pay until the item is cleared and ready for delivery by one of these couriers. That’s why if there is an option, I always ask the shipper to use the postal system since Canada Post charges a reasonable flat fee for this process (it was $8 a few years ago).
