Cheap DIY Display Case Tutorial - AaronUglum.com
I like to make my display slightly taller than my frame. (16.5" instead of 16") I think the extra at the bottom makes it more sturdy. Chose the best looking long edge for the bottom front of your case. Preferably an edge you didn't cut. The factory machines will usually cut straighter than you can.

Anyone ever build their own display cases? Was trying to plan a case that is nice enough for display but won't make my wallet implode. Was thinking something nice out of wood and maybe plexi-glass to start. Would assume custom cut glass would be more expensive than just buying a case

I think glass shops have pre-cut panes. You could check out some locally and make the display accommodate a specific size to fit the budget if possible

My personal DIY display for TF G1s and MPs is not truly a "build it from scratch" type of project. This is what I bought: 3 x Ikea Detolf glass cabinets http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10119206/?query=detolf (69 USD each) 1 x Kallax shelf unit (to be used in the horizontal position as a base for the detolf http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40275846/#/00275848 I mounted the 3 cabinets on top of the kallax, I used fasteners to fix the bottom of the detolf and I like the result very much. From here you can go crazy with LED lights and you can use the top to display boxed figures or whatever not too heavy you may think. Just my little project, nothing fancy but I will post pictures if interested.

You guys have made some Great models. I am currently Building a Ship myself. (75x30x45cm)
I want to put it in a nice clear case so that it stays clean and Nice. The Ones sold online are very expensive though, any thoughts on how to get a cheap One or how to build One?

You can usually get glass or perspex cut to size cheaply, or particularly with perspex it's easy to cut yourself. 3mm thick in either is common. Perspex is a good option as lighter than glass and a bit easier to work with. Both can be joined with clear silicone or you can get timber for a frame - either square stock and route 3mm channels or you can get L profile and glue the glass/perspex inside. Them fit to a wood base.

I made my own display case out of clear and mirrored acrylic sheets. I managed to get the sheets for cheap from a local company that also cut them to size for me. As for building it, I followed this guide and it turned out alright for me.

DIY Project: Acrylic Display Case (with instructions) – make.share.learn
September 23, 2014 - Hi! I am going to show you how to make an acrylic display case. Its real easy to do and also much cheaper than getting it custom-made by shops. You can choose the types, colours and sizes of acrylic sheets to create your case to suit your liking. For this case, I made it 30cm x 30cm x 350cm for the LEGO R2D2(isn’t it gorgeous!) with a mirrored aluminium-acrylic composite panel as the base.

r/DIY on Reddit: Assemblying a large plexiglass display case
February 9, 2025 - Most tutorials I looked up are about assembling small cases, up to 30x30x30 cm (width x length x height), where a bonding agent is often sufficient to hold everything still. However, my sets are very big (mostly ships, so they tend to be long and tall. I calculated that I would need 30x60x70 cm case for the largest ship) and especially one of them fills an entire coffee table, so ideally the display case would be 50x80x60cm.

March 9, 2024 - Using PVC can be a creative way to create one since these materials are not limited to plumbing only. You can create a beautiful and unique display case by arranging the PVC in a wooden box. Although a tire may appear useless when placed in your garage, it can also make a fantastic DIY Tire Display Case.
