I have wanted a propane fire pit for awhile, when camping in burn ban areas they are still allowed. Off the shelf ones are great, but are also pretty big. I wanted portable. I had made one before, it was a little ghetto, but worked. More on grassrootsmotorsports.com

basically, just look up the BTU of the fire pit. a gallon of propane has 91.5k BTU's. so if you get 8-10 hrs of burn time on a 4 gallon tank. your courtland firebowl uses around 40k btu's (per hour). changing the medium doesn't matter. since it's the burner that decides how many BTU's it uses. also 1 gallon of propane is about 4.24 lbs. so if this the ammo can. https://www.tacticoolfirepits.com/faqs "Our general rule of thumb is to plan for about a pound of propane an hour consumption for a medium-ish flame. Hello,
We will be camping next week in an area of Canada where there is a fire ban but they are allowing propane fire pits. We are planning to get a 5-10 lb propane tank and are looking for recommendations for small portable fire pits as we are car camping and don’t have a ton of space. Thank you all!

I got a little propane campchef pit and 5lb ignik tank with the same idea…family car camping in burn ban areas. Unfortunately the rangers I’ve encountered still asked us not to use it. Too much open flame and risk of a kid flinging a flaming marshmallow. I get it, better to be safe than sorry.

Ignik fire can is probably the most compact. Also very easy to DIY. But just barely suitable for two people. I’ve had outland firecube for a couple of years now and like it a lot. However I carry full size 20lbs propane tank as fire pits use a lot of fuel. Probably a pound an hour on small setting.

So as the title states I'm doing research for a natural gas fire pit. I have a gas line for my pool heater near where I want to build the fire pit so I planned on extending this for the fire pit (my BIL is a plumber so he would help with gas piping). After looking into it, it seems way more expensive to build my own with landscape blocks, purchase a burner table, burner controls, burner than to just by one already assembled. Am I going about this wrong?

I’m well over a thousand dollars and this isn’t even including the rocks to fill the pan, material for gas pipe, etc. Anyone have experience with this?

When we moved into our house the previous owners had built a fire pit off to the side of the house. When it cooled off I decided to move it. I grabbed the first brick and it crumbles into dust. I soon realized they used no fire bricks and no pan. When I tried to throw it away the garbage man said they wouldn't take it. I had to throw out a couple bricks at a time for over a year.
