I want/need to replace a single drawer box in my kitchen (current cabinets are cheeeeeap builder grade. [I'm renting]). The drawer glide broke on my silverware drawer. I was just going to fix/replace it but, this drawer is in an extended depth cabinet, while the drawer box is only 14" deep. I felt this was a good opportunity to extend this drawer to at least get a little more silverware space- there's very limited drawer space in this kitchen.
I don't have a table saw or router. What's my best option? I was thinking a dovetail box would be best given it's a silverware drawer and will have some weight in it. Are there inexpensive 'hand tool' dovetail jigs? Do any lumber yards/home centers sell stock that's maybe pre-tailed? I've tried googling for replacement drawer boxes but, those options all seem to be closer to $100+ in addition to shipping.
Are there any options that would allow me to do this for closer to $50-ish? Not including slides/rails, I'll buy and install appropriate slides separately. Is there an inexpensive drawer box option I'm overlooking? Or am I just going to have to just buy a Harbor Freight router and dovetail jig?
The current drawer is 22" W x 14" D x 4" H Was thinking of trying to do a 22" W x 22" D (ish) cabinet depth is: 26.75" from inside-back to face frame.
Drawer face is full overlay, so I should be able to attach it to basically any box. Also plan on buying full extension slides with a weight rating appropriate for the drawer+contents.
