I'm looking at some angle grinders to remove some material off of 1/8" aluminum angle irons, and I was surprised to see the Drill Master angle grinder for $10, and the Chicago Electric for $17. It's not a particularly challenging task, and I don't see myself needing to use it very often so the price is good. However, I've had mixed luck with HF power tools, with the drill being super cheaply constructed but at least works as a drill, while their rotary tool could be stopped with my fingers. I'm curious what everyone's experiences with the angle grinders have been. Do you think these angle grinders are up to the task, and is the Chicago Electric worth the upgrade to the Drill Master? Thanks in advance!

I have the Chicago electric and its well worth the $17. I can't speak to it's longevity as I haven't had it for long, but it seems strong enough, and from the teardowns I've seen of the princesses auto equivalent, it ain't too bad inside. It's plenty powerful enough to where I haven't stalled it, and it'd probably hurt me if I did. The guard is kind of a pain tho From reading about it and feeling it in the store I'd imagine the drill master one is a pile of turd

September 7, 2010 - I have personal experience with the drillmaster grinder at Harbor Freight. Still works after 2 grinding discs and about 4 cutting discs. However, the Craftsman has much higher amps (7.5), while the drillmaster only has 4.2-4.3. I think $30 for a 7.5amp grinder is pretty good.

I noticed the cheap $9.99 Drill Master rotary tool was recently rebranded under the Warrior name.
Also, last night, I was watching a YouTube video uploaded about a year ago, and the person had a Drill Master angle grinder. I didn’t know Drill Master sold angle grinders, and I looked on the website and it appears that the angle grinder I saw has since been rebranded as Warrior and is now currently the entry-level Warrior angle grinder.
Is Drill Master merging into Warrior, or is the brand just being repurposed? Or are only a couple products being rebranded and they just happen to be the only ones I’ve seen?

Both DrillMaster and Warrior brands were introduced around the same time, around 1999, out of Ningbo, China. From available sources, it would appear that the company LuTool is involved in either manufacture or distribution of it, as well as Bauer and Hercules. Similar products destined for European markets seem to be linked to Powerplus through the parent company, Varo. How those IPs or tooling are managed seems to be highly oriented to convenience and marketing. Sort of like different models of a car frame being marketed under different badges.

Drill master is cheap garbage. Not worth existing. As harbor freight moved towards higher quality offerings i would be surprised if they aren’t just stopping that line

All you have to do is add cutoff or grinder wheel. For a few dollars more, I found a ten pack of metal cutoff wheels. Two bucks for safety glasses. For $21 with tax, I was able to quickly cut the T-Posts. Less than a minute to eat through. Say what you will about HF tools. I certainly got my money's worth and them some. Is it pretty and have the DeWalt name? Nope. It's a blue DrillMaster with a reversible handle.
