I been wanting to get a Dyson vacuum for some time now since I’ve heard great things about them. Just saw the Black Friday sales on their site for the V8 Absolute at $399 (MSRP: $450) and the V10 Animal at $399 (MSRP: $500). I have only hardwood floors in my house so I was thinking it makes sense to get the V8 Absolute over the V10 Animal, but the V10 seems more powerful. Anyone with experience in Dyson able to recommend which one I should choose? I don’t want to go for the V10 Absolute ($499, MSRP: $550) unless I really have to.

The V8 is great. It has both the soft roller head which is super agile on hard floors and the direct drive carpet/rug head, but it also works on hard floors as well. However, the run time can be disappointing. I have an above average, not massive, home, and I could never use the V8 to clean my entire place on one full charge, which is the reason I have the V11, with an extra battery. So basically 120 minutes 😞. Also the V8 takes 5 hours to fully charge. The v8 runs for about 25 minutes with the cleaner head, and 40 minutes with non-motorized tools. The V10 Animal’s head also can clean hard floor and carpet. It has a torque drive head, it has 2 adjustable openings in front, that let in bigger particles such as cereal bits. Not soft roller head. It can be used on both hardwood floors and runs for 35-40 minutes with the motorized hard floor tool, and 60 minutes with non motorized tool on low setting. And takes only 3.5 hours to charge. I would personally go with the V10, but if you have a small to medium sized home, or you just want to use it not as your main vacuum, but for quick cleanups here and there, then the V8 for sure. However don’t underestimate the V8 25 minute run-time, you can actually clean a LOT in 25 minutes. Since Dyson vacuums have fade free batteries, it has the same level of power from beginning to end.

I’m in the same boat & can’t decide either. Just wanted to add that Costco has an even better deal on the V10 Animal @ $350. I’m leaning towards that option since it’s pretty easy to return something to Costco if it doesn’t work out.
