Bookshelf as an entertainment center-tacky or no? My boyfriend and I just moved into our apartment a few weeks ago. We’re limited on space so we decided to use this shelf for multi-purpose. Our plan is to eventually mount the TV, but I don’t know how I feel about the shelf itself. Thoughts? Tips?

August 20, 2019 - Would be more balanced with books/deco in a library and tv on a dedicated low board. Alternatively, having a closed shelf would be a good solution. But all depends on if you absolutely want to keep this one/renew/buy new. ... See if you can buy three canvas boxes (Ikea, Target, Container store?) that fit in the cubes that have no books in them.

My construction itch has been scratched so I'm not taking on any more projects haha. If you have the depth, I've seen people do ikea kitchen cabinets with a constant shelf underneath the tv.

My roommates father passed away before Christmas and he inherited a bunch of books and stuff from him. I wanted to do something different with the living room and give him a place to display what he felt most nostalgic about.
All fairly straight forward but ran a bunch of LV/HV wire to power speakers, lighting, and the motorized screen. I also added a pull tube to go from behind the TV to the corner floor so I could run my surround speakers in a clean route.
Overall cost ~$1000
