Is it hopeless to get an entry-level cybersecurity job in Toronto?

As u/drushtx mentioned, Cyber Security is not entry level and as you mentioned its a specialized field. Cyber Security is not a field someone traditionally goes into without experience in other foundational fields such Networking, Systems Engineering and DevOps. You need to start at the basics. I graduated with a Cyber Security degree and Sec+ and could NOT land even a SOC Analyst role. I did have a CCNA so I landed a Jr Network Engineer role making 42K USD. Promoted to Network Engineer, then took my skills somewhere else after a year. Became a Systems Engineer > Systems Engineer II > Operations Lead/Consultant. Cyber builds on other practices and fields, I would recommend being a Network Engineer if you can or IT Specialist to learn the trade of the industry. Gain experience, then move up. Everyone wants to be a hacker and make 150K a year but does not want to build the foundation that comes with experience. More on reddit.com

Gonna break the harsh truth for you. No chance in hell. There are no entry level jobs in cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is a field you pivot into after having at least a few years of experience working in some other IT job. Most people who go into IT work for years as system/network administrators or engineers. Best way is to find an IT entry level job like a help desk job and learn as much as possible while working. Also get some certification like the CompTIA trio A+, Network+ and Security+. And also try to study computer science if that is an option because even certification will only help get you noticed. I have a bachelor's in computer applications, and a post-grad honors in cybersecurity and project management with a security+ and CAPM. It still feels like hopeless for me to get my foot in either of the specialized fields. I have been applying since January and have applied to almost 70+ jobs in the Toronto region and so far have not even interviewed so far. Not even internships or co-ops interviewed me. How do I get my foot in? I am looking for direction and guidance. Thank you.

Anything is possible but irrespective of the geographic restriction you have set, cybersecurity is not usually an entry level position. It's not entry-level in Toronto, it's not entry-level in Lausanne or even in Swaziland. Unless your mom is the head of HR or you just happen to be in exactly the right place at exactly the right time, you're probably going to have to work your way up the ladder like most of us.
