Anyone have any first-hand experience with ExtraSpace Storage?
Looking at renting a small storage locker from them. Their "web special" prices are good, and the reviews seem generally positive, but do mention price increases over time without any real details. Seems that their web specials would be even more open to increase given they are starting lower.
Anyone used them? How was it, and how did the prices increase over time? Specifically looking at Sunnyvale or Santa Clara, but any experience is welcome.

They have $16 5x4 locker units, which means you can't walk in. Unlike Public Storage, where all the locker units are above normal room height units, the ExtraSpace units are vertically splitting a normal unit into two. So you may need to bend down to get deep inside for the lower one and need some lifting for the upper one. You can also store your own stepping stool or ladder in the locker.
I saw only a few lockers, probably they convert some non standard space into lockers. The lockers are right next to the lift, very convenient. Whereas Public put a locker on top of each normal unit. You need to move a huge ladder to your locker and climb, which are used in hardware stores for things on the top shelf.
ExtraSpace has one gate for the car, main door, lift or side door. All using the same 8 digital code to open. There's no remote app unlocking. Public don't have a gate for the car. Their codes are 6 digits. The app can unlock the main door but not the 2nd.
ExtraSpace also need you to be insured. They offer a few dimes less than Public, which cost $15. You don't need to take their insurance if you have your own. Also you need a lock. They use the same locks.
That's a no brainer. I can drive fast to the lift. My locker is by the lift. I don't need to find the ladder, move it, and climb. You can't rush in rush out to get something fast.
Ps They are pushing the insurance hard. But actually if you say that you have home owners insurance that covers off site storage, most do, you don't need to produce proof. You just need to sign a waiver. I think it's like rental car. The one who sell you insurance got commission, if only for a day of coverage. After that, other guys really do not care that you cancel.
