This coming 14th is going to be my 3rd billing cycle with them. I signed up for the web price for a 10’x20’ was $122/month. After the mandatory insurance fee and taxes it came to $144 a month. Lo and behold I just got a notice in the mail from them today which was a rates change notice and now the 4th months fee is going to be $244. I honestly don’t think that could have been planned any better just as I literally moved everything I needed into the unit. They said it was due to inflation costs etc, which is bull crap. It’s a storage unit, the metal and concrete has been paid for upon completion of building the facility. I’m pissed about this it’s an extra $100 a month. The last place I thought I would get squeezed from is by a damn storage unit place. And the kicker… the web special on their site right now is listed for the same unit I have for $141/month, so they are full of it. Answer from Zestyclose_Wall5848 on reddit.com

r/bayarea on Reddit: Experience with ExtraSpace Storage?
March 24, 2024 -

Anyone have any first-hand experience with ExtraSpace Storage?

Looking at renting a small storage locker from them. Their "web special" prices are good, and the reviews seem generally positive, but do mention price increases over time without any real details. Seems that their web specials would be even more open to increase given they are starting lower.

Anyone used them? How was it, and how did the prices increase over time? Specifically looking at Sunnyvale or Santa Clara, but any experience is welcome.

This company is so bad. I have a friend who worked in their national sales dept and they said that every single customers calls are recorded. Then the employees are given 2-3 hours a week to listen to calls where the customers personal info is not even blocked out! So everyone has access to the customers drivers license #, date of birth, passport info, address, phone#, children’s names, email etc etc. Not only that but employees can see and take a picture of all the items listed for the units inventory on each account. So if you say you are storing antiques, art work, tools, jewlery, computers, office equipment, medical devices, boats, rvs, classic car, furniture etc you are basically advertising to be robbed. Employees are able to share that info with anyone and also share the gate code and unit number listed on your account. Making break ins very easy as well because the roofs of the buildings are easily cut and units broken into often. All the training classes listen to these calls as well, and can access all the units info and customers info on the account. They say it’s to learn from. However, the company does nothing to block out or protect customers personal info! Nor does it ask permission to publicize the customers personal information! I was shocked!!!!!!!

ExtraSpace Storage review (vs Public Storage)
Regarding Extra Space Storage on Clark Rd. in Sarasota, Florida: Helping my friend move from one unit to another, she had an old vacuum cleaner and 24x24 box with other small empty boxes inside it to throw away. There was a dumpster in the lot that did not have any signs on it other than the dumpster company sign. I looked inside and it appeared to be a trash receptacle because there was some old furniture and other trash inside it. So we threw the vacuum and boxes inside. Just then, after we had already thrown everything in, the manager comes out of her manager’s apartment and with a very nasty demeanor tells us that we can’t throw our trash out there. I said I’m sorry we didn’t know it wasn’t a trash dumpster because there’s no sign. However, that’s all we have, it was only an old vacuum and some small boxes. We don’t have any more garbage. She told us we need to figure out how to get our stuff out of this 6-foot tall dumpster! We are two 50-something year old ladies, one with bad knees and myself with only one good arm (I have surgery on it in 2 weeks) and we had my special needs little boy with us who was throwing a fit because he was hot and tired. This woman could’ve easily just given us a gentle reprimand or warning, or even asked us to pay a few bucks for the extra 10-15 lbs we added to the dumpster. But no, she was extremely nasty to us right from the get go, as if we were some teenage thugs committing a crime! We ended up having to drive all the way back to my house, get two ladders, drive back to the storage complex, and climb into a rusty dumpster to get a measly box and a vacuum out of it! We could’ve easily been injured doing so and Extra Space would’ve had a HUGE liability lawsuit on their hands. I can’t speak for my friend who has a unit there right now, but I have had units in this place before and I will never give them my business again! I will also be telling everybody I know about how horribly we were treated and they should take their business elsewhere too. More on reddit.com

bed risers for extra storage space under bed, worried about weight limits
I think you're overthinking this. What happens if it fails? You fall several inches? That's not going to injure anyone. I have a hard time imagining those failing under this kind of application, but if they do, it's not the end of the world. More on reddit.com

r/urbancarliving on Reddit: ExtraSpace Storage review (vs Public Storage)
September 3, 2025 -

They have $16 5x4 locker units, which means you can't walk in. Unlike Public Storage, where all the locker units are above normal room height units, the ExtraSpace units are vertically splitting a normal unit into two. So you may need to bend down to get deep inside for the lower one and need some lifting for the upper one. You can also store your own stepping stool or ladder in the locker.

I saw only a few lockers, probably they convert some non standard space into lockers. The lockers are right next to the lift, very convenient. Whereas Public put a locker on top of each normal unit. You need to move a huge ladder to your locker and climb, which are used in hardware stores for things on the top shelf.

ExtraSpace has one gate for the car, main door, lift or side door. All using the same 8 digital code to open. There's no remote app unlocking. Public don't have a gate for the car. Their codes are 6 digits. The app can unlock the main door but not the 2nd.

ExtraSpace also need you to be insured. They offer a few dimes less than Public, which cost $15. You don't need to take their insurance if you have your own. Also you need a lock. They use the same locks.

That's a no brainer. I can drive fast to the lift. My locker is by the lift. I don't need to find the ladder, move it, and climb. You can't rush in rush out to get something fast.

Ps They are pushing the insurance hard. But actually if you say that you have home owners insurance that covers off site storage, most do, you don't need to produce proof. You just need to sign a waiver. I think it's like rental car. The one who sell you insurance got commission, if only for a day of coverage. After that, other guys really do not care that you cancel.

I’ve had a storage unit at Extra Space for awhile now. It’s on the first floor, easy to access. I’ve had no issues with them.

How I decluttered old toys before Christmas with the kids | Ideal Home
1 week ago - The sheer amount of stuff seems to creep into every space. And with Christmas only weeks away, the thought of even more arriving fills me with overwhelm. And any time I thought of decluttering them, I felt even more overwhelmed. But we recently invested in some new toy storage for the girls' new playroom, which finally prompted me to get ahead of the chaos with a proper pre-Christmas toy clear-out.

Working at Extra Space Storage has been one of the most stressful jobs I’ve ever had. The company sets extremely high and often unrealistic sales and performance goals, which creates constant pressure.
