Does anyone know how much it would be to print and spiral bind 127 colored pages? I saw a tiktok saying it was affordable and wondering if it actually is? Or would it be more affordable if I print at home and just pay to get it bound?

If you are looking for color printing then 127 pages would be approximately $96 ($0.76 per page for color). If you did black and white then it would be closer to $33 (about $0.26 per page). The binding will run you about $6-$10 depending on if you want protective plastic colors or not.

Hey everyone,

I'm hoping this will get seen and that someone may be able to tell me what the issue is, and what could (I hope easily) fix it.

I need to print out an 8.5x11" 32-page booklet. I have updated an old document of the same style, sent it to a fedex printer with the same details I've used for past orders of the same size, and received something I've never seen in the digital and print proofs-- each page has about an inch of unused space on the top and bottom of the content. I'm including an image here with the content blocked, but you can see where the top and bottoms stop by the headings and page numbers.

The printer informed me that there is nothing more they can do, so I'm wondering if there is anything on my end that will avoid me re-sizing every single page. Has anyone seen this/know what I should do?

Here is all of the relevant info I gave the printers:

Size: Each page of the booklet will be 8.5” by 11” (one 11x17 page folded in half)
Layout: Double-sided on each page
Print color: Both front and back covers to be full color; interior pages to be black and white
Scale: Please have this printed scaled to fit so that nothing is cut off due to the quarter-inch bleed.

Scale to fit will scale significantly differently on different printers based on the manufacturer print driver, which may not be accurate. If your fedex got a new printer, it will scale differently. Don’t use scale to fit. Do a single page test and to see what sorts of margins you need to allow for and design all your work accurately. Or pay to do it over.

What's the size of the page in the digital PDF proof they provided? Is it 17"x11"? Or a different size due to the added top and bottom margins? Did you provide single pages and they imposed the pages of the booklet for you? Or did you impose the pages and sent spreads to them? It depends on how your file was setup and what you gave them. If your document is 8.5"x11" with 0.25" bleeds, printing on a 17"x11" page would not be sufficient. To include bleeds and crop marks, you'd have to print on a larger sheet and trim down to keep it at 8.5"x11". If you scaled your document to fit to page as you said, your resulting file would be slightly smaller than 8.5"x11", FYI. If the printer is saying there's nothing they can do, then most likely the FedEx printer doesn't have a lot of options to preflight or adjust files. You may get better results reaching out to a local print shop that's a bit more knowledgeable, but that would come at the cost of being more expensive. It looks like your proof has no margins on the inside/outside edges of your pages. So they may have scaled up the content of the page, disregarding margins. How does your layout file look? Does it have more margin space on the sides? I would tell them to print at 100% scale on a larger page and trim down instead of telling them to mess with scaling options. The question comes down to how your files were setup, what you provided to them, and what (if any) adjustments they made on their end before creating proofs.

So I have a ~500 page document that I want to get in a coil bound presentation thingy. I don't want to spend the money to print the pages because I have a printer at home, but obviously I can't bind the document at home..

Can I bring in a stack of paper into FedEx Office and ask to get it binded? Thanks for any feedback!

You can. Most smaller locations will only have a coil binder while larger ones will have comb and very few also have velo. The main thing here is depending on how thick your paper is this will have to be split into at least 2 or 3 coil bound books. So look at several splitting points that would make sense prior to dropping it off.

Yes, depends on location but most of them should be able to do it. However, printing and binding might not be much more than just binding.
