Using Planex to remove popcorn ceilings and have some questions | Festool Owners Group
March 4, 2017 - I've received maybe two good replies (Ash dash, Leakyroof) and the other replies just keep saying "scrap the ceiling" I have access to a $1600 machine that creates (little to zero dust) but will use a $8 scrapper :-\ and a pole for sanding [sad] Can the mods please move this topic to the general area to help get more exposure [big grin] To the members that did really want to help with my Festool Planex project thank-you ... Sorry you're feeling that way. Whether is apparent or not l, I believe most here are trying to offer constructive help, so while appreciate your perspective of critique on my delivery was more towards terse than with any ill intent. I suppose if you take a sample of the popcorn in and it contains no asbestos then sanding it is a viable plan...

March 24, 2022 - Use a different grit. I seem to recall using 120 or 150 for popcorn removal. I honestly don't even know why they'd sell 80 grit for the Planex, except maybe for legit plaster work.

Popcorn Ceiling Removal - Page 3 - RedFlagDeals.com Forums
Agree with previous poster- easy to remove wet ,unpainted popcorn. Scraper is enough, don't think you need Festool or any other power tool for that. More seirous is a condition of ceiling after removal- lots of nicks, small damage. Skim coat will be required 99% and is not DIY friendly with no experience. ... schade wrote: ↑ Find a company that uses the Festool Planex ...

Even after popcorn removal I lightly pole sand the ceiling to get any residue off, then spackle everything and sand again. So the planex would still be a great asset even if I do a wet removal.

r/festool on Reddit: Planex for removing knockdown?
July 29, 2018 -

Hello,

I’m looking to buy my first Festool product. I’m currently remodeling my kitchen and would like to remove the knockdown textured walls and ceilings.

I currently own an extractor and was looking for opinions on a planex. Would this be able to remove texture “dustless”?

My other alternative is applying 2-3 coats of drywall mud and then sanding.

r/Tools on Reddit: Drywall Sanders for getting rid of popcorn ceilings
May 3, 2024 -

My parents have popcorn ceilings and finally getting around to removing them. About 10 years ago we painted the ceiling in the kitchen/living room a very bright white which helped hide the fact that they were popcorned lol. But now the tools to do the job are widely available so it’s time to get rid of the 90’s style.

Have any of you guys purchased the tool for this in the last few years, and if so what brand did you buy and how well did it work/hold up? Got like 2,000sqft to deal with and really don’t want it breaking or falling apart constantly.

There are so many different ones and the reviews for every one of them range from works great to dog water. Which is always the case I know but none of the ones on Amazon have more than a few hundred reviews most actually under 100. Usually when it’s several thousand it’s a bit easier to decipher a user issue vs a tool issue.

Let me know. Thanks in advance.
