Phone reps can’t change your option level. You can reapply and that’s it. It’s based off the application, nothing else. Just juice your numbers on it. Answer from iPaul_1 on reddit.com

r/Fidelity on Reddit: Increasing options trading level?
February 12, 2021 -

I've had a Fidelity account for a couple years now as it's what my employers used for 401k retirement accounts, but never opened an individual investment account until Robinhood restricted $GME buys on 1/28 as I created my RH account well before my employment.

A few days ago, I pulled the trigger and initiated a full account transfer from RH to Fidelity and applied for level 2 options trading, but was approved this morning for level 1 with the transfer still processing. I'm assuming this is because I reported my income and assets to be in the lowest brackets (currently unemployed and a student so it's not like I have much). Would it be possible to contact Fidelity to verify I'm aware of the risks associated with options trading and request a level increase? Or will I have to just wait for a couple months until I can move and find employment/another income source? I'm not necessarily looking to trade heavily in options; rather, I'd just like the ability to spend a few bucks every once in a while on deep OTM weekliesi'm a responsible investor.

Also, should I be concerned if margin isn't enabled on my Fidelity account? I'm aware that RH shares are considered to be on margin rather than cash when transferring and have heard issues with shares transferring back to RH. I've already taken screenshots of my order history for each of my positions on the RH account, but what other steps can I take to resolve this or other potential issues?

Thanks.

How do I increase my risk tolerance with options?
You can change your account risk tolerance to whatever you want. When I began hedging with crypto securities, I was forced to make that move. It's more of an acknowledgment that you understand the area you're interested in carries more investment risk. I don't know my way around Fidelity's website well; I'd simply type Risk Tolerance or something similar into the website's search box. That play usually gets me where I need to be eventually. What should I consider when setting a limit price for an options trade?
Setting a limit price helps you control what you pay and manage risk. For most options trades, Fidelity accepts limit orders in increments of 1 cent ($0.01), but these orders might not be displayed in quotes. If you want your order to be displayed in the quote, try using $0.05 or $0.10 increments. · The options for the following symbols (.SPX, .NDX, .RUT, .CBTX, .MBTX) trade in 5-cent increments if the premium is below $3, or 10-cent increments if the premium is above $3. These symbols are not eligible for penny increments for limit orders.

Hi, I’ve been applying for level three margins with Fidelity a few times now, but getting I keep getting restricted to level 2. I have over $40,000 in equities and have two years of option trading experience and have an aggressive growth mindset.

What are the exact qualifications that Fidelity looks for to be approved for level three margins accounts? I am highly interested in selling naked puts

When applying for options, I didn’t realize my risk tolerance was as low as it was. I really like buying leaps, would love to do so without a put/call attached to hedge. Thanks

Thanks for connecting with us on Reddit, u/Dreamonsir ! You must update your Financial Profile if you want to change your risk tolerance. You can update your options level and risk tolerance by following the links provided below. Update Financial Profile (login required) Apply/Update options level (login required) Options trading approval decisions are based on a combination of your trading experience (including experience trading stocks/ETFs, mutual funds, bonds, etc.) financial situation, and investment objective. Because different option trading strategies involve varying degrees of risk, approval requirements are more rigorous for a higher option level approval. We are not able to share specific details as to what will qualify you for a specific option level.
