You should never hire an FA for performance. You should hire them for comprehensive planning (tax planning, distribution strategies, retirement income analysis, estate concerns, etc.). If they aren’t doing all of that for you, what are you paying for? Edit: to clarify, anyone down playing the value of an advisor is an idiot. Most people (including those here) should be paying an advisor. Just make sure you’re getting real value from it. Answer from yerrmomgoes2college on reddit.com

Is Fisher Investments worth the fee?
This is a matter of opinion. I personally do not think it’s worth it, but many of Fisher’s clients are more than happy to pay the fees, which are slightly higher than the industry average, to gain access to its Investment Policy Committee and other financial planning services.

Fisher Investments Reviews the Potential Benefits of Investing When Things Look Bleak
This is because low investor sentiment can set up positive surprises for stocks. Fisher Investments’ reviews of market history suggest companies don’t need incredible results for their stock to rise—they just need to outperform expectations. This works both ways though, as even low expectations are sometimes still too optimistic.

August 26, 2025 - It creates tailored investment mixes for each client and frequently adjusts client portfolios based on the firm's constantly evolving market outlook.* *As you'll read later on, however, its "personalized" financial advice may not be all that personalized. Fisher is a fee-only firm, meaning it only makes money by charging a percentage fee on the assets it manages (more details on its fee structure below).

August 16, 2024 -

I've (52M) been talking with a Fisher rep for awhile, I've been through the analysis process, and they make a fairly compelling case that, net fees, they could improve my returns 4 to 5%.

I'm skeptical, but I'm also a "set it and forget" it investor, about 10% bonds, 50% VOO, 10% VTI/small cap, and the rest in target date funds.

My portfolio is a little unbalanced and spread over a bunch of accounts I've accumulated over the years. Overweight in some areas, underweight in others. I could consolidate and balance, but I hate to think I'm leaving money on the table with a mostly hands off approach. Hoping to semi-retire in 10 years.

Anyone using Fisher, or other similar firm, and feel it's worth the fees?

EDIT: Fisher fee is 1.25. Most of my ETFs are .03 to .1

April 21, 2025 - I’d also be wary of thinking of Fisher as much than a wealth manager with limited financial planning-from all reports I’ve seen, they manage wealth first. As noted by another commenter, the AUM model may be cost effective for investable assets <500K-1M, but there are other more reasonable fee models which actually put financial planning first and investment management second, usually using passive index funds.
