My library gives me Kanopy and Hoopla for no extra charge. Ad-free Movies and TV on both. I suppose my tax dollars are paying for it, but that's paying for it even if I don't use it. Answer from garylapointe on reddit.com

Hello everyone, After several months, I've finally finished my own little streaming app. Its like netflix and all the other streaming platform in one place.

I'm an old-school Stremio user, but I thought I'd like to create something similar in my free time. My goal wasn't to replace Stremio, but simply to offer an alternative. I want to add as many simple, on-demand customization options to the app as possible. One such feature right now is the category editor, but many other things are also planned.

The app is completely free, with no ads or paywalls. I also managed to get it on the Play Store, so it's available on phones, tablets, and TVs.

Here are a few features the app already has:

Built-in Real-Debrid

Subtitle addon

Trakt support

Category editor

Synchronization of favorites and watched movies/series with a Google login

Separate mobile and TV versions

Community addons (stremio addons is supported-ish)

It's also compatible with most Stremio addons, like scrapers and catalog addons. By the way, because of the built-in Real-Debrid, you don't have to enter your details separately in the addons, even if it's a Stremio addon.

This might not be the best, most detailed app description, but I'm very excited to see how you'll receive it and what your experiences will be with my app.

I hope you'll like it and it will handle well if some of you start using it. :D I'm open for feedbacks! There is still bugs in the app,, but I'm working on it.

I have Sling but I really do not watch it that much and am considering cancelling. The other day I was helping my parents get their new TV set up and went on the Roku App and they had a lot more stuff on it than the last time I opened it.

Out of Roku, Samsung TV, Pluto, Tubi etc. which one would you say is the best? I noticed a lot have overlap on channels but did not delve too far into their on demand movies and stuff like that.

Any suggestions?

Some Free Streaming Apps Have Seriously Good Movies!
January 16, 2025 - Many Android APKs are available, including CinemaHD, Film+, Flix Vision, and Ostream. Note: These are third-party apps, but are free to use. ... I’m so tired of all the streaming apps in the UAE.

June 17, 2025 -

I've started using an Android TV device and I'm looking for a stable and easy-to-use streaming app that offers a variety of content: movies, series, sports, and maybe even some cartoons or documentaries. I've heard about Onstream, TiviMate, and Flixify, but I'm not sure which ones are really worth it.

Recommendations for good streaming apps for Android? While others will surely chime in with their recommendations, mine will appear a bit jaded being I am a Mod in r/TiviMate 😏. Nonetheless, I was a user first (almost 5 years now), and have been Modding for just over a year. Don't let my position augment the fact that I chose it for it's ease of use and layout style, which pretty much aligns with most cable, DSL or Satellite boxes. It's excellent for Live TV, while some day that other apps (Stremio, etc) provide better VOD / Series TV. This site will tell you what features get enabled if you choose to register (pay) for a lifetime sub. Google Play Store still offers an annual sub, but at roughly β…“ the cost of lifetime, it's almost a no-brainer... Official Tivimate website... tivimate.com Just scroll across and down to find details of its features, and options for downloading it to try for 7 days before deciding to pay (or not). Unlimited playlists and Multiscreen are able to be used when registered, as well as colour settings and EPG support. Here is a link to a User Guide... Tivimate User Guide (v5.1.6) by u/MikeG484 : https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/cbo7n89430utio1x41lfm/TiViMate-Users-Guide-5.1.6.pdf?rlkey=4nxc1h29ig1tvonbcqzospflw&e=1&st=ri3s9r60&dl=0 The only thing you need is an Internet Protocol TV Service Provider (IPSP), not to be confused with your Internet Service Provider (ISP), to obtain an M3U playlist or credentials in Xtream Codes format (easiest to input), or Stalker Portal (may require additional authentication, which depends upon IPSP). We don't discuss these in r/TiviMate , as it's something that Reddit has been chasing down, especially in subs not intended for such discussion. Hope this all helps you in some way πŸ™

r/movies on Reddit: Is there an app/website that lets me monitor all free streaming services?
June 13, 2025 -

Google tv, just watch etc only let me add (mostly) paid services

I want an app where I can add services like Tubi, Plex, YouTube & build a watchlist. Most of the movies I want to watch are on the free services (I have odd non-popular tastes)

These services don't appear in most of the apps/websites where I can create an account.

Is there an app or website will let me do this?

r/cordcutters on Reddit: The Best Free Streaming Services of 2025
May 1, 2025 -

Over the past four years, I've tried and compared a bunch of different streaming services on the YouTube channel I run and after going through hundreds of possibilities, I've come up with the best of the best.

You can watch my video on free streaming services here: https://youtu.be/m8iD0nV5Xqo

Category1: The Swiss Army Knife***:*** They do a little bit of everything

YouTube: Yes, I'm putting it in the same category as everything else because YouTube is now a source for long-form content AND people watch it on a TV more than any other streaming service. They've got live news channels, sports highlights, official uploads of movies and shows (with ads), and for myself and many others it's become our go-to for "sit back and relax" TV.

Plex: There's live channels, there's on-demand movies and TV (including a good selection from AMC Networks), a store for rentals, a JustWatch-style search area for any movie and TV show, AND the ability to convert your own media files into your very own little streaming service? I mean, c'mon. This app rules.

Sling Freestream: Yes, Sling TV has paid plans but it has an underrated free tier, too. Tons of free channels and on-demand content, the ability to aggregate some of your paid apps, and Sling Rewards just for watching TV. But the coolest part of all has to be the ability to connect their AirTV device to an antenna and use the Sling app to watch your local broadcasters over the internet, on any device (even if it's a bit wonky at times).

Category 2: The Big Guys: They are to broadcast TV what Netflix and Hulu are to cable

Tubi: This streaming service has become one of my go-to apps for finding niche movies and TV shows. While it's known for campy B-movies and horror flicks, it has a rotating selection of top-tier Hollywood films and shows, notably ones from Warner Bros like those from the DC Universe.

The Roku Channel: It's pre-installed on Roku devices and offers one of the best selections of movies and shows you can watch for free, including some originals. While their emphasis on "Premium Subscriptions" makes it feel like you're being upsold, I do come to this app often for their live channels.

Pluto TV: This Paramount-owned free streaming service focuses on live channels and is a low-key free alternative to a Paramount+ subscription. You'll find plenty of shows from CBS, live channels with Paramount Plus originals, and a movie selection with a surprising amount of overlap with Paramount+'s paid plans.

Honorable mention: Freevee, this app from Amazon was a go-to for many, even if it's gradually withering away as it absorbs into the Prime Video app.

Category #3: Library Card Required: Watch ad-free movies with a free library account

Kanopy: Fantastic selection of indie films from studios like A24, classic films, indies, and even some big budget flicks like Terminator 2. Great for film aficionados.

Hoopla: Similar concept for Kanopy but also features audio books, comics, and even some streaming subscriptions like Hallmark+ and CuriosityStream with what they call BingePasses.

Category #4: Local Programming: Might not have full-feed of broadcast TV but still can get local news

LocalNow: Gives you a wide selection of local news broadcasts from a variety of cities, in addition to various entertainment networks and on-demand movies and shows.

Haystack News: Aggregated selection of live and on-demand news, both local and national.

PBS: Gives you free 24/7 access to your local PBS and PBS Kids stations.

What do you think of this list? Any of your favorites I missed?

Stremio (The Media Center): Think of Stremio as a beautiful, modern library for all your content. By itself, it doesn't have any movies or shows. Its power comes from "add-ons." It's a free app available for your Android and your PC. + Torrentio (The Add-on): This is the most important add-on for Stremio. It scans torrent sites for links to the movies and shows you want to watch and displays them inside the Stremio app. (But if there are low or no Seeders the Stream is slow and choppy) ++ Real-Debrid (The Subscription): This is the part you pay for (it's very cheap, around $3-4/month). Instead of streaming from a slow and public torrent connection, Real-Debrid gives you a private, high-speed Cached Stream. The Torrent is cached on their Servers making it insanely fast to Stream 4k Videos without long Buffering. How to Set It Up: The setup takes about 10 minutes and you only have to do it once. Install Stremio on your Android from the Play Store or on your laptop from the Stremio website. On your laptop or phone Browser, search for "Torrentio Stremio Addon" in Google. This will take you to the configuration page. Go to the Real-Debrid website, create an account, and purchase a subscription. In the Torrentio Configuartion page setup, select Real-Debrid as your provider and paste in your API key (which you get from your Real-Debrid account page). Click "Install." It will ask to open in Stremio. Once you do that, the add-on is synced to your account and will automatically work on your phone as well.

Update [2025-12-26]: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Here's a little Christmas Gift: The Vlix Collection at vlix.ai/4k, a library of 200 stunning 4K HDR films with Dolby audio, all of which can be either streamed or downloaded. Enjoy cinematic clarity and sound quality, and save these movies to your media collection forever. Please note: These links will NOT stay up forever... they are generously being shared with the community by an anonymous developer on github, and given that each file is 10-20 GB, it is only a matter of time before the server's bandwidth get s exhausted. We ask that you only download films that you / your family actually plan to watch, do not scrape the links indiscriminately because you will ruin the experience for other members of the Vlix community

In the future we will notify viewers in-app about any such issues that arise... We thank you for your patience and hope that you continue to choose Vlix.ai for all your streaming entertainment needs :)

Check out https://vlix.ai and be blown away: we've indexed every free movie and TV stream out there in a beautiful UI, added powerful ad-blocking technology (NO popups), and powered the whole thing with an agentic chatbot named Vlixy: she gets to know you over time, remembers what you like, what you've seen, and knows what you should watch next.

No signup needed, and everything is truly free. Start with the Web App first, it is the most recent version of the platform and has the best user experience (iOS and Android users should install the *web app* using the "Add to home screen" feature in their browser).

Of all my side projects this is probably the one I'm most proud of, even tho its impossible to monetize easily, for obvious reasons...
