My latest config for gitlab 16.x.x

GITLAB_OMNIBUS_CONFIG: |
        ### Web interface settings
        external_url "https://gitlab.domain.org"
        nginx['listen_port'] = 80
        nginx['listen_https'] = false

        ### Pages
        gitlab_pages['enable'] = true
        pages_external_url "https://pages.domain.org"
        pages_nginx['ssl'] = false
        pages_nginx['listen_https'] = false
        gitlab_pages['listen_proxy'] = '0.0.0.0:8090'
        gitlab_pages['internal_gitlab_server'] = 'http://localhost:8080'

This is a configuration for 1 docker container, which stays behind a reverse proxy(nginx/traefik/whatever). If you terminate https(TLS) on the load balancer it proxies traffic to HTTP ports: 80 - gitlab, 8090 - pages.

Hi ! I have a docker instance of self-hosted Gitlab and I wanted to add gitlab pages to it… All of this runs behind traefik2 (a reverse proxy). I was able to make gitlab pages work normally, but when I enabled access_control, it didn’t work anymore… If the repository is public, the pages ... More on forum.gitlab.com

December 24, 2020 - Made a request from the container # curl localhost:8090 -> 404 error page · From this I assume that something is blocking incomming traffic for 8090 (GitLab Pages), but requests to 80 (GitLab) are completed successfully.

December 4, 2020 - I could just add rows into my /etc/hosts file for the host domains but I’d prefer a more elegant solution. I’m going to set up local DNS forwarding using dnsmasq so I can host Gitlab and Gitlab pages on my local machine. Gitlab will need 2 host domains, one to route to the main Gitlab UI and the second to route to the published Gitlab pages.

The settings contained in GITLAB_OMNIBUS_CONFIG aren’t written to the gitlab.rb configuration file, and are evaluated on load. To provide multiple settings, separate them with a semicolon (;). The following example sets the external URL, enables LFS, and starts the container with a minimal shm size required for Prometheus: sudo docker run --detach \ --hostname gitlab.example.com \ --env GITLAB_OMNIBUS_CONFIG="external_url 'http://gitlab.example.com'; gitlab_rails['lfs_enabled'] = true;" \ --publish 443:443 --publish 80:80 --publish 22:22 \ --name gitlab \ --restart always \ --volume $GITLAB_HOME/config:/etc/gitlab \ --volume $GITLAB_HOME/logs:/var/log/gitlab \ --volume $GITLAB_HOME/data:/var/opt/gitlab \ --shm-size 256m \ gitlab/gitlab-ee:<version>-ee.0
