Google has this really cringe system where if you want a promotion you have to make a portfolio of impactful things you have done. So instead of fixing or making anything that already exists better they instead make a new version of something that barely even functions and then force everyone to use it by removing the old thing. Then you can put in your promo package that you launched huge new feature X and 100m users interacted with it. And there is also like a cooldown on things that means as soon as you do a major change like that you want to transfer away from that project to somewhere else. So you have no incentive to actually fix the garbage you pushed out and no one else has incentive to fix it either because they don't get credit for it. More on reddit.com

This is the exact feature I'm looking for. I have a pretty large archive of pictures that includes my family's photos from the 70s & 80s. Using that example, let's say I want to find a vintage picture of a family heirloom that I know is in my Google Photos library, but the word search option isn't pulling it up. If I still possess the item, I could take a new picture to be the source and I could then direct Google Lens to search for it in my Google Photos library. Google Lens would return results that contain the heirloom, including ones where it was not the main subject. Hopefully we'll get this functionality in the near future. More on reddit.com

January 11, 2024Reverse Image search redirects to Google Lens. Can't disable it.
In principle NOT, Google has started to redirect the reverse search images on Chrome in favor of Google Lens.
Since Vivaldi is identified as Chrome this is a normal
You canchange the AgentUserString to identify Vivaldi as another browser and probably will not redirect you to GLens
...but on another hand some websites can give you problems cause of 'incompatibilities', only to identify itself as another browser, nothing related about compatibilices.

Very very bad. It always try to give link to clothes shop links when there are people in the picture. Works more like ads search. I can no longer image search for multiple contexts/news/discussions with this garbage POS. More on reddit.com

Google lens is the worst thing to ever replace anything useful. 99% of the time I don't get any image that is remotely resembling the source image I'm trying to find for better details or other things to work with. If anything, Google Lens tries as hard as possible to send me to some clothing store site that has got nothing to do with a cartoon image I was just working with. Best of all, some incredibly *redacted* team decides just to completely remove the other option. How brain dead do you have to be?

Is there a way to use the Google Lens option to search your Google Photos instead of searching the web? Example: I have a pic in my Google Photos of a person wearing a specific shirt. Can I use Google Lens to search my other photos in Google Photos for that shirt? If not, how do I suggest this to Google? I think it would be a nice feature.

You can do some limited object searching directly in Google Photos. For example, "yellow shirt." It's not perfect, and hasn't improved at all over the years (in fact, many think it's become worse over the years). But it's better than other photo organizing apps' search features.
