Is Guam A Decent Place To Live
Worst thing about Guam right now is the cost of flights back to the mainland, Hawaii, and Japan. Also if you’re expecting to run your AC at 70 degrees day and night, you’re in for a shock. Otherwise, it’s a nice place since I’ve been here. More on reddit.com

How similar is Guam to Hawaii in terms of living, economy, demographics, tourism, etc?
Guam is a much smaller version of Hawaii. Its economy is mostly reliant on tourism and the U.S military presence. Hawaii has those things too obviously but the economy is a little more diversified. Guam food is influenced more by Spanish and Filipino food whereas Hawaiian food is more heavily influenced by Japan and Korea. Surfing in Guam isn’t really a thing because of the coral reef that surrounds the island. More on reddit.com
What is GUAM like?
It's hot, humid, and has plenty of WWII sites/artifacts around. I spent a total of three weeks there TDY in the mid-'90s as a B-52 crewmember. Back then, the main portions of the economy were tourism (mainly Japanese) and the US military. Many of the Japanese tourists visit battle sites and leave prepared food for the spirits of the Japanese soldiers still entombed or in graves in/around caves. Scuba diving on shipwrecks is very popular, but can be deadly if not done properly and in teams. We were instructed to not walk into the jungle or in the water on the reefs. For the former, people can go only a few dozen yards in and be lost; for the latter, unexpected waves can drag you across the reefs, and your meaty scrubbed skeleton might be found. August 14, 2025 - The capital, Hagåtña (formerly Agana), is located on the west coast, near the middle of the island, and is the seat of government and the site of the main commercial districts on Guam [10]. The northern part of the island is a forested coralline limestone plateau with sheer coastal cliffs, while the south contains volcanic peaks covered in forest and grassland. A coral reef surrounds most of the island, except in areas where bays exist that provide access to small rivers and streams that run down from the hills into the Pacific Ocean and Philippine Sea [1, 9]. The Northern Guam Lens provides nearly 40 million gallons per day of drinking water (about 80 percent of the total) to the island of Guam [8]. Guam is the closest landmass to the Mariana Trench, the deepest point in the ocean [9]. Because of its strategic location in the western North Pacific Ocean, the U.S.

To the south and southeast of Guam is the Mariana Trench, which has its deepest expression within the Guam EEZ—in fact, this is the deepest location in the global ocean. The trench is partly filled with sediment. East of the Mariana Trench is the sediment-covered Pacific Ocean abyssal plain with several large Cretaceous (>65 million years old) seamounts that protrude through the sediment. The underlying crust in this area is Jurassic in age (>142 million years old) and is the oldest part of the Pacific Ocean crust.
