I decided to splurge on a hanks belt after seeing all the reviews done on them on various websites, about how they’re super high quality and how they’re invincible. When I got it, the leather finish looked terrible, as I show here(please don’t mind the mess, cleaning day). I didn’t expect it to be perfect of course, it’s a full grain leather belt, but I didn’t expect it to be in worse shape than one found at a thrift store.
Anyways, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and emailed customer service about it and see if that was normal and if I was just being picky(which I’m probably not but then again I don’t own anything else that is full grain leather).
Now this is the real kicker. When they got back to me after showing them the pictures, they said “I am sorry but that is not out belt. Our holes do not have a long hole in it and I do not see the Hanks belt stamp. I am sorry I cannot help you further. Have a nice day!”. Not seeing the stamp? Okay fair enough, they’re terrible pictures I guess. But claiming that you don’t have a long hole? Where you insert the buckle? You know, like what practically every other belt made in existence has? I don’t know if they’re just bullshitting me or if they’re just that stupid, how do you work for a belt company and not know the buckle hole is long?
I’ve replied to them anyways showing them the stamp and informing them that it’s the buckle hole, so I’ll update this if anything changes. For now, I’ll leave this review to make sure people know. I might be the one in a million, or I could be overreacting, but either way I’m still pissed off and down nearly 80 bucks.

I have been using Hanks Belts for about 5+ years, every day, and they are as good as new. No deformation even after carrying a full sized pistol most days. I’m really impressed with how they hold up to use, including a lack of discoloration better than any belt I’ve used. Over $100, but made in the U.S., Bison Leather, and stainless steel construction seems with it. Not sure if anyone will ever cash in on the 100 Year warranty though. Anybody manage to break one or is it BIFL?
I found the finishing on Hanks belt not satisfactory. The squire is so light duty and feels a downgrade after using saddleback leather belts. the stitch was also disappointing. I am interested in getting the Montana bison but the finishing of the edges seem ugh, its just black paint that wears off as per some videos.
I had a four stitch belt from Saddleback and a bunch of tow belts but they had this absolutely retarded way of suggesting sizes back in the day(they have fixed sizing guide now) and I didnt know better when I bought them, had to give them all away to baby brother once waist grew a few inches. It really left a bad taste in my mouth. The guy "talks" so much and while he has a great smile thats not gonna get me back the few hundred dollars i lost. And they dont sell the four-stitch anymore either. Really hesitating to give my business to them again. Is the quality still the same for the tow belt as 7-8 years ago? old bull should be the same, since its really one fat hunk of leather. tow belt gets scratched too easily though.
Why are other belt makers, who make heavy duty, full grain, but beautifully finished, dress-belts? 1.5" 5-6mm thick full grain with classic styling, exceptional finishing and stitching.
I am looking for belts that last decades. I see lots of talk about horween etc etc, but I understand they are much softer, and if they are, i am not interested. classic cowhide or steer/old-bull leather only please.
update: after going for the 1.5" thicker belts, im very happy with hanks. all recent deliveries have had excellent stitch quality and i ended up buying almost 6 new belts. not very pleased with the buckles. but Hank makes excellent belts. the tuscan is my fav.
My wife bought me a really nice new Bison leather wallet from Hank’s Belts. They have a 100 year warranty on most of their belts and wallets. Has anyone bought anything from them? I really love the wallet so far. My next purchase from them is going to be one of their high end belts. I am hoping these items will last my whole life!
