HiBy R6 III 2025 Review - Headfonia
March 22, 2025 - You can quickly feel the maturity in design, software, and user experience of the R6 III 2025. Sound-wise, there is the HiByOS. It’s a custom Android that was rebuilt and developed in-house by HiBy and optimized for bit-perfect audio.

HiBy R6 III 2025 | Headphone Reviews and Discussion - Head-Fi.org
April 8, 2025 - The M5 Ultra doesn’t have any built-in storage like the R6 Gen III 2025, rather it solely relies on a micro-sd card for storage. Battery life backup is about the same between these two. The M5 Ultra is clearly the superior DAP is terms of sound quality, design, display and power output but if streaming is your main priority especially from apps other than Tidal than Hiby R6 Gen III 2025 might be better suited to your needs.

HiBy R6 III after 3 days - Pros & Cons (and problems of general DAPs)
I own an R5 gen 2 for the past month, first time user for daps, my take is, i get to appreciate the dap for what it is, a music player, not a phone, just exclusive for music, it runs on android so it’s slow compared to new OS but, surprise surprise, i don’t mind it, i don’t even use it for music streaming since it takes a long time to load Spotify. Lol. I enjoy adding music to my microsd which is 1 tb and slowly building my music library like that. I got 20,0000 flac files loaded already and loving the sound coming from my cheap dap and not asking for anything else. So basically i lowered my expectations for my cheap dap and get to enjoy the way it’s intended, play music, ill do more heavy load on my phone and my tablet and desktop. Fyi, battery life is awesome, 35 hours on AB mode and 14 hours on Class A mode. It will be awhile for me to consider another dap player since battery life is important to me and this one is a keeper. FiiO M21 vs Hiby R6 III 2025
I doubt many have heard both, it’s a struggle to buy a DAP because you rarely read good comparisons. All I can say is, on paper, even with the price difference I’d go for the M21, the multifunction button and newer processor and software make for a compelling device that will hopefully last a bit longer. Also the M21 is smaller and lighter, which for me is a must. More on reddit.com

Bugs: (do not expect to be fixed anytime soon) Its exactly the same thing with shanling: 6 weeks to squash a bug, and not all bugs... I think its a part-time job for only one dev and 6 or 7 players to keep updated More on reddit.com

R6evolution: HiBy R6 Pro Max and R6 III (2025)_the headphone list
April 1, 2025 - There’s nothing radically different to them, but at the same time, incremental upgrades like a much larger battery in the R6 Pro Max and flagship CS DACs in the new R6 III address some of ther shortcomings of their predecessors and bring both DAPs not only closer to each other in performance, but closer to the multi-kilobuck tier too. At a glance, and without even reading this review, I can already tell you that if you were in the market for the older versions of either DAP, the new versions are a no-brainer buy.

March 25, 2025 - The HiBy R6 III 2025 continues HiBy’s established design principles with a refined aesthetic and solid build quality. The device’s design shares significant similarities with its predecessor, the R6 III, drawing inspiration from its angular, masculine form while incorporating subtle updates for a fresh appeal.

HiBy R6 III Review - Headfonia
February 24, 2023 - This is probably the only colouration in the entire sound of the R6 III. Lows are clean and sweet, while the quantity is not excessive or light. It is just adequate and scales very well with the different IEMs. Midbass is very adequate as well, it does not compress the staging. HiBy managed to tune it to hit the perfect spot.

r/DigitalAudioPlayer on Reddit: HiBy R6 III after 3 days - Pros & Cons (and problems of general DAPs)
November 21, 2023 -

Bought it in China Taobao for a very good price during 11.11. About 360USD. Comes with the official orange leather case.

For context, it's my first time owning and using a DAP, I had always use a phone+DAC setup (LG V60 + Gryphon). But it's not convenient as this phone is too big, so I'm giving DAP one shot.

The main concern I always have with DAPs is the impression that they are just binding a DAC to a low-end phone that make the whole device outdate real quick. 1. New portable DACs come with great features that are lacking in most DAPs. 2. For someone who is tech savvy, it doesn't feel right knowing the processor is worse than some 6-years-old low end phone... which costs only a fraction and has sdcard slot too, and much better OS (will mention later).

FYI, My Hiby is configured to use Nova launcher + UAPP (DSD native off & MQA decoder off so that everything uses my MSEB tuning).

Here are the complains so far:

  1. The case, is too tight, no cutout for buttons, volume knob 90% unusable. Case lacking QC as the case does not align nicely with the screen (slanted few degrees off).

  2. Snapdragon 665 is still not good enough. When browsing chrome, music could even stop playing. (Weakness of DAP in general)

  3. 3-button navigation layout cannot be customized to swap "back" and "recent app" buttons. This proves that android version 12 doesn't matter if it's so crippled it has less features than an android 10, 8, or 6 on a phone.

  4. OS is immature, having some hiccups and glitches here and there. Again, don't expect DAP's Android to be like a phone. It's more like Android of tvbox. Lol.

  5. Android security patch in 2021 lol..

  6. (Bug or faulty unit) While charging, MSEB will not work. It will cause 1 side to have no sound and eventually both sides no sound. Only affects PCM output, DSD and MQA are not affected. (Pending HiBy tech team to debug)

  7. HiBy music app is not bad, but UAPP is still better. This is a joke, that none of the DAPs out there can build a better app than UAPP. Which leads to next point...

  8. Features like PEQ, EQ are only in the HiBy music app. Which means it's not system-wide, just take note. There are already DACs out there having PEQ globally. That's why I said, DAP gets outdated quick because DAC capability falls behind, as well as Android OS update support is limited.

Good things about HiBy R6 III:

  • system-wide sound settings that works with other music apps. Eg: HiBy's MSEB and plugins like convolution.

  • HiBy WeChat customer service is quite fast actually

  • their music app is better than most other brands out there

  • it looks really good for the eyes

  • charging speed is decent

Good things about DAPs:

  • 4.4 balanced output in one single device, so u can fit in your pocket and walk anywhere u want.

  • you dislike cable hanging between 2 devices

  • you think leather case looks really cool

  • you value the proprietory sound customization and settings that are "system-wide".

  • you accept your fate on the crippled android OS (some brands like Shanling even block 3rd party launcher)

  • you still prefer a brick even when you can get a smaller performance phone+DAC strapped together (check out Xperia XZ2 Compact with snapdragon 845 and Fiio Q3 with DSD256 + MQA + 2.5/3.5/4.4)

Common issues of HiBy that were resolved:

  1. Nearby Share is not working at first, you have to allow "Nearby devices" permission for App > Google Play Services.

  2. HiBy Cast screen orientation on my phone is stucked in landscape mode. Rotate the R6 to landscape and back to portrait. Now phone finally stays in portrait mode.

R4: this is the most affordable Android-based DAP with balanced output in HiBy’s line up. The audio side of R4 is powered by 4xES9018C DAC chips and class A amplifier. The Android is powered by Snapdragon 665 SoC with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. I reviewed this nifty DAP a while back. R6 III (2025): R6 is arguably the most popular amongst HiBy DAPs.
