These are not that modern to me, and not particularly clean either. Herringbone and hexagon are busy patterns. I would for sure lean into something more clearly modern. Need Help Choosing the Perfect Kitchen Backsplash Tile – Suggestions Welcome!
I think you are on the right track. You do have more glossy choices that you like, not a bad thing but matte might work better. I choose and plan tile with look but also details in how it will be set. Edge finishes if exposed is huge because schluter on an organic look isn’t ideal. I also plan my heights and design to see where cuts will be and maximize flow. Sometimes sizing is super important from that aspect. I would say lean into what you love and the first few work better than the last few. Next I would be looking at flooring and hardware/lighting to make it all work together. I build from the bottom up…flooring, cabinets, counters, backsplash, lighting, hardware then paint and grout. If you want a more organic aesthetic then I love the square, but if you want a little sleeker modern organic then the subway, but again it is primarily about the layout. Also be aware how warm your stone is - hoping your floor choice helps to balance that as it is a very bold statement in your space! I love that you are leaning into it. I got bids from tile setters to do a backsplash for $2000. I ended up doing it myself for under $200.

With the amount of tile used I’d have assumed more than $200 but that’s awesome. I love high impact low cost home renos. I redid my bathroom and spent maybe $1200. When my house got appraised the fact I had a “newly remodeled” bathroom really helped.

Hi everyone,

I’m in the middle of a kitchen renovation (photo attached), and I’ve picked a few backsplash options from Home Depot, but now I’m second-guessing myself. My kitchen features SINARP wood cabinets, white quartz countertops with extra white veins, gray LVP tile floors, stainless steel appliances, and black matte handles for the cabinets. I’m aiming for a clean, modern, and slightly elegant look, but I’m worried my backsplash choices might not be bold enough.

Here are my current options:

  1. Daltile Lamora Marble Gilded White Hexagon Tile

  2. MSI Angora Subway 2x6 Polished Marble Tile

  3. MSI Angora Herringbone Marble Tile

I’m considering whether I should keep things simple like white subway tiles, lean into bolder options, like black, metallic, or geometric tiles, for a more striking, modern effect. Or, should I stick with neutral tones that are timeless and versatile?

Would love to hear your thoughts and advice—especially if you have suggestions for other options or layouts!

These are not that modern to me, and not particularly clean either. Herringbone and hexagon are busy patterns. I would for sure lean into something more clearly modern. Hi everyone! I’m in the process of selecting tiles for my kitchen backsplash and would love your input. I’m aiming for an Organic Modern vibe and have narrowed it down to a few options, but I’m open to other suggestions.

A bit about my kitchen: 

•	I live in a desert climate with over 300 days of sunshine, so I’m cautious about choosing tiles that are too shiny, glossy, or brightly colored, as I don’t want the kitchen to feel washed out.
•	The main focal point of my home is a red and orange rock fireplace and staircase, and I want the kitchen to complement that.
•	I’m looking for a timeless design that won’t feel outdated in 10-15 years.
•	I’ll be replacing the flooring soon, so please ignore the current flooring in the photos. (Also pls ignore the mess!!!)

I’ve fallen in love with the Amagansett tile by Ivy Hill in Sand Dune Cream, but I’m torn between the 2”x8” subway and the 4”x4” square versions. I’m also considering other options and have six samples in total:

I think you are on the right track. You do have more glossy choices that you like, not a bad thing but matte might work better. I choose and plan tile with look but also details in how it will be set. Edge finishes if exposed is huge because schluter on an organic look isn’t ideal. I also plan my heights and design to see where cuts will be and maximize flow. Sometimes sizing is super important from that aspect. I would say lean into what you love and the first few work better than the last few. Next I would be looking at flooring and hardware/lighting to make it all work together. I build from the bottom up…flooring, cabinets, counters, backsplash, lighting, hardware then paint and grout. If you want a more organic aesthetic then I love the square, but if you want a little sleeker modern organic then the subway, but again it is primarily about the layout. Also be aware how warm your stone is - hoping your floor choice helps to balance that as it is a very bold statement in your space! I love that you are leaning into it. So many rip it out and I love to embrace natural stone.

Is the ceiling painted with high gloss paint? It's pretty distracting, I'd go with matte.
