The Brush bar is not spinning on the floor tool
Checking the floor toolRemove the Turbine head from the extension Wand by pressing the release catch. Use a coin to turn the fastener anti-clockwise and remove the Brush bar. Clean any hair, thread and debris from the Brush bar. Check the opening of the floor tool for blockages and remove if necessary. Refit the Brush bar and refit the end cap, turning clockwise to lock. Rebuild and test the machine.

Check the bin and cycloneA damp or musty smell is caused when dust in the cyclone has come into contact with water. It may not be a direct contact with water, for example when vacuuming pet hair that is slightly damp, this moisture will combine with the dust in the cyclone causing the smell. Additionally the smell may occur if the filter goes back into the machine wet. Remove the bin from the machine by pressing the bin release catch located to the side of the bin. Check the openings of the duct and bin for any blockages and remove as necessary.

I agree with the reviewer who called Dyson out about the Animal 2 having too much suction for normal carpets. I have hardwood floors and LARGE area rugs. My carpets are not shag, nor are they considered "deep pile." However, the vacuum is almost impossible to push. On a previous Dyson I was advised to either drill holes to allow more air into the height leveler or to add washers to increase the distance between the brush roller/suction tube and the carpet. Both would let more air in, reducing the suction. I also noticed that one person posted the suggestion that one remove the rubber portion of the height adjustment bar altogether. Tomorrow I will be on the phone with Dyson. It is ridiculous to spend this much on a vacuum cleaner that doesn't work.I read reviews but several people said that they worked fine on shag and deep pile carpeting. I inherited a Dyson Multi-floor 2 but it has a strange issue I have not been able to find online. It turns on fine and once reclined, the beater bar begins to spin as normal (suction at base relatively weak). However, it switches suction to the handle as if it is in upright position and the beater bar continues to spin (as it is in the reclined position). I have taken it apart to check for clogs, ran it without the filter, and made sure that the canister is empty but the issue persists. Any ideas on troubleshooting? Thanks!

Have you removed the hose completely from the back of the machine and checked down the hole where the hose was? Have you removed the screw in the clear window section on the machine under the bin and checked nothing in there? Check the change over tube under the machine its the bit thats just under the hose. when in the upright postion its supposed to point to the hose, when its reclined its supposed to point towards the internal hose that attaches to the cleaner head. Sounds like something is caught around there. Worst case scenerio the change over needs replacing.
